Mount Fromme suits intermediate and stronger mountain bikers who want the District of North Vancouver's rated network of roots and wooden features above Upper Lynn Valley, with a District lot at the trailhead and a bus nearby. Winter daylight is the catch, because that lot closes at 6 pm from October to February.

Metro Vancouver closes the paved lot at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver has closed the paved parking lot at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park while construction goes on, and it gives no date for the lot to reopen. You can still park in the gravel lots and in the marked spaces along the road. Walkers and cyclists keep using the road. Follow the posted signs and whatever the work crews tell you.

See who looks after which ground
- District of North Vancouver
Manages the Fromme natural area, which runs north of the neighbourhoods around Mosquito Creek to upper Lynn Valley and holds the network's mountain bike trails and the parking lot.
- Metro Vancouver
Runs Lynn Headwaters Regional Park on the network's eastern edge, where cycling is allowed only on the Connector Trail.
Is it for you?
Fromme gives intermediate and stronger riders the District's rated singletrack on Vancouver's North Shore, with a lot at the trailhead and a bus close by.
You’ll love Mount Fromme if
- You ride Intermediate trails with confidence and want to try the District's Advanced lines.
- You're travelling without a car and don't mind climbing from Upper Lynn Valley.
Think twice if
- You want lift-served laps, since no lift serves Fromme.
- You only have a winter afternoon, when the lot closes at 6 pm.
Plan how you reach the trailhead
The District's Fromme parking and staging area sits at the top of Mountain Highway in Upper Lynn Valley, at the foot of the trails. Bylaw 8310 allows representatives of Grouse Mountain Resorts, Metro Vancouver, the Van Tan Club and servicing agencies to drive the gravel service road north of the Mountain Highway access gate.
Ride and walk the way locals expect
- On two-way trails the climbing rider has the right of way, and the rider behind on a climb waits for a pullout or a flat spot to pass.
- E-bikes yield to non-assisted bikes on every trail, whichever way they're heading.
- Hikers and horse riders have the right of way on multi-use trails, and you dismount and step aside when you meet a horse.
- Tell the people ahead when you want to pass and how many riders are in your group.
- Ride the trail itself and never a braid, and keep from skidding on wet or loose dirt.
Ride the trails on Mount Fromme
The District of North Vancouver manages the Fromme natural area, which runs north of the neighbourhoods around Mosquito Creek to upper Lynn Valley and borders Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. The North Shore Mountain Bike Association formed in the winter of 1997, after rumours spread that North Van's trails would be shut down, and it has looked after Fromme ever since. Its builders send the District a work plan every year, and the District approves it before anyone digs. The NSMBA counts 69 km of trail in its care across its three mountains.
The District's Trails for Public Use layer rates each named trail Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Expert. It lists Griffin Ascent and K.O.T.S. as Beginner multi-use trails, Dreamweaver and Natural High as Intermediate, Kirkford and Pipeline as Advanced, and Digger and Upper Oil Can as Expert. Roadside Attraction carries Beginner and Intermediate segments. Climbers get their own routes in the layer too, from Griffin Ascent up to Warden's Climb, which it rates Advanced.
Fall is maintenance season on the mountain. In its Fall '26 update the NSMBA reports cleared drains on Griffens and Warden's Climb, and a TAP day with 22 volunteers rebuilt berms on Kirkford, which MEC adopts. Arc'teryx adopts Dreamweaver, where crews turned a pedal-clipping corner into a proper right-hander and put drains on a section that had none.
You can get here without a car. TransLink's 210 from Burrard Station runs through Upper Lynn Valley on Mountain Highway, and from the Coleman Street stop it's uphill the rest of the way to the lot. Drivers park in the District's staging area at the top of Mountain Highway, which shuts at 6 pm through the winter months. North Shore Rescue says the lack of a light causes more of its overdue callouts than anything else, so carry one on any afternoon ride from October on.
Worth knowing
- Check the District's alerts page and the NSMBA's news before you ride, since both post trail closures and work updates.
- Carry bear spray as the NSMBA suggests, and remember that feeding a bear or a coyote breaks BC's Wildlife Act.
- Leave a trip plan with someone at home and pack North Shore Rescue's ten essentials, because many of the District's forests get no cell signal.

Quick answers about Mount Fromme
When does the Mount Fromme parking lot close?

Can you ride an e-bike on Mount Fromme?
The District of North Vancouver's Park Regulation Bylaw 8310 bans vehicles in parks away from roads and parking lots, and it writes motor-assisted cycles out of its definition of a vehicle, so an e-bike that meets BC's motor-assisted cycle rules isn't caught by that ban. Yes. No lift or scheduled public shuttle serves Fromme. Endless Biking's guided Gravity Shuttles leave its Lower Lynn shop with a van, a driver and a guide, priced from $500 for a group in 2026.
