Kirkford is an Advanced-rated mountain bike trail on the Lynn Valley side of Mount Fromme in North Vancouver, and it suits riders who want one of the first trails Fromme's riders built, by nsmb.com's history. The trade-off is the finish, because Kirkford comes out low on the east flank on the Beginner-rated Cedar Tree Trail and leaves the Mountain Highway road behind.

Metro Vancouver closes the paved lot at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver has closed the paved parking lot at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park while construction goes on, and it gives no date for the lot to reopen. You can still park in the gravel lots and in the marked spaces along the road. Walkers and cyclists keep using the road. Follow the posted signs and whatever the work crews tell you.

The District of North Vancouver rates Kirkford Advanced for mountain biking. Its layer starts the trail where it leaves Crinkum Crankum near the Mountain Highway road, and the District rates Crinkum Crankum Advanced as well. From there Kirkford drops east toward Lynn Valley and finishes on Cedar Tree Trail, which the District rates Beginner for riders and hikers. MEC funds Kirkford through the Trail Adoption Program of the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA).
The NSMBA's fall 2026 update describes an adoption day on Kirkford with 22 volunteers, and eight of them had never come to a trail day before. They rebuilt the berms and brought them in closer to the trail for better flow. The crew also cut a stump back from one corner and added grade reversals to shed water. Two July trail days had already rerouted the exit around a buried rotten log and refurbished the last two berms, and they improved the ladder exit and the way into the log ride.
Worth knowing
- Ride it without skidding, as the NSMBA asks, because the loose dirt a skid throws up washes downhill in the next rain.
- Leave a trip plan with a friend and carry North Shore Rescue's 10 essentials, because the District of North Vancouver warns that many of its forest and mountain areas get no phone signal. Call 911 early if someone gets hurt or lost, since North Shore Rescue charges nothing for a rescue.
- The District of North Vancouver closes the Fromme parking lot at 6 pm from 1 October to 28 February and at 7 pm in March and April, so plan a winter ride to finish before the lot closes.
