Seventh Secret is an Advanced-rated mountain bike descent on Mount Fromme in North Vancouver, and it suits riders who already handle the District of North Vancouver's Advanced trails. The trade-off is the climb, because the trail starts high on the gravel Mountain Highway road above the District's Fromme parking lot.

Metro Vancouver closes the paved lot at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver has closed the paved parking lot at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park while construction goes on, and it gives no date for the lot to reopen. You can still park in the gravel lots and in the marked spaces along the road. Walkers and cyclists keep using the road. Follow the posted signs and whatever the work crews tell you.

The District of North Vancouver rates Seventh Secret Advanced for mountain biking in its Trails for Public Use layer, which grades trails from Beginner to Expert. The layer draws it in four segments that leave the gravel Mountain Highway road and rejoin it at a lower switchback. Climb the road to the start and the trail drops you back onto the gravel with more of Fromme still below. The North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) looks after Fromme's trails under yearly work permits from the District.
nsmb.com's history of North Shore riding, published on 16 October 2014, credits Ross Kirkwood with Seventh Secret. By that account Kirkwood built Kirkford with Brian Ford before he moved on to Griffin, and 7th Secret came later still. Fromme's riders worked quietly in those years, and the Secret Trail Society's mandate was to keep trails hidden and pass the trailhead locations on.
Worth knowing
- Tell riders ahead how many are in your group before you pass, as the NSMBA's etiquette asks, and on an e-bike yield to every rider on a regular bike whichever way they are going.
- Leave a trip plan with a friend and carry North Shore Rescue's 10 essentials, because the District of North Vancouver warns that many of its forest and mountain areas get no phone signal. Call 911 early if someone gets hurt or lost, since North Shore Rescue charges nothing for a rescue.
- The District of North Vancouver closes the Fromme parking lot at 6 pm from 1 October to 28 February and at 7 pm in March and April, so plan a winter ride to finish before the lot closes.
