Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver suits a skier who wants a full day close to the city. Its 61 runs spread over Black Mountain and Mount Strachan, and the resort says its 610 m of vertical is the most on Vancouver's North Shore. Getting there means 15 km of Cypress Bowl Road on winter tires or a seat on the Cypress Coach Lines shuttle.
Road closure
Cypress Bowl Road shuts to cyclists while crews repave it
Crews started repaving 12 km of Cypress Bowl Road on 13 July 2026, from the District of West Vancouver works yard at the bottom up to Cypress Mountain Resort, and BC Parks bars cyclists from the road until they finish. Cars still get through to Cypress Park and the ski area. Expect delays and single-lane alternating traffic on gravel. Some roadside lots and turnoffs are hard to get into while the crews work there. BC Parks still listed the closure on 16 October 2026 and expects the paving to be done by the end of October.

From 1 November to 31 May, BC Parks routes backcountry travellers through the Cypress ski area on a marked backcountry access corridor, and the Black Mountain and Bowen Lookout trails must be reached that way.

- Follow the green circular signs that mark the access corridor through the ski area.
- BC Parks strongly discourages winter travel to Eagle Bluffs and along the Howe Sound Crest Trail past Bowen Lookout.

How does Vancouver's North Shore fit together between the mountains and the inlet?
Every neighbourhood on Vancouver's North Shore sits on the same narrow shelf between Burrard Inlet and the mountains, and the rivers coming down off the slopes divide it into valleys. You cross it along the water and climb it up each valley.

What can you do on Vancouver's North Shore mountains after dark?
All three local hills switch on their lights once the snow comes, and two of them give non-skiers a reason to ride up at night as well. Your ride home decides which one suits the evening.

Which hill on Vancouver's North Shore should you ride tonight?
Cypress Mountain lights the most terrain and keeps its chairs turning until 10 pm. Grouse Mountain is the one you reach by SeaBus and bus, and Mount Seymour suits learners and park riders.
