Ferry notice
The Horseshoe Bay skywalk comes out until late November
Foot passengers at Horseshoe Bay usually walk onto ships at Berths 1 and 2 over a skywalk, and BC Ferries has closed it so crews can extend its working life. Crews lift it off the site between 19 and 24 October 2026 and put it back in late November. Until then, follow the terminal staff and the signs, and check your ticket for where you board.

Horseshoe Bay Motel
$168 a night
The motel sits on Royal Avenue in Horseshoe Bay, a minute's walk from the BC Ferries terminal and two minutes from Troll's and Olive & Anchor on Bay Street. Both room types sleep two adults. The queen room looks over the village toward the water, and the deluxe ensuite double faces the village and the mountains. Each room has a private bathroom and a coffee and tea maker, and parking and wifi cost nothing. The building has no elevator.
Check-in runs from 4 pm to 11:30 pm and check-out is at 11 am, with the front desk staffed from 8 am to 10:30 pm. Arriving later than that needs a call to 604-921-7454 ahead of time, and you have to be 19 to check in. Kids 12 and under stay free in their parent's room if they use the existing beds. A rollaway costs $15 a night, and the motel has no cribs.
In winter the motel makes sense for the night before an early boat to Nanaimo or the Sunshine Coast. It also works for a day at Cypress Mountain, which the motel puts 15 minutes away by car.

Worth knowing
- If you're driving onto a Departure Bay sailing the next morning, book and pay for the ferry in advance, because BC Ferries no longer sells drive-up fares on that route.
- BC's short-term rental registry exempts motels, so the motel's listings carry no provincial registration number.
