Grouse Mountain in the District of North Vancouver suits a visitor staying downtown without a car, because the SeaBus and bus 236 reach its base and the Blue Grouse Gondola carries you up to 33 runs. Grouse lights 15 of them for night skiing above the city. Four chairs serve the whole ski area below the 1,231 m summit, so a strong skier covers most of it in one evening.
Trail closure
The Grouse Grind closes for maintenance until 10 November
Metro Vancouver closed the Grouse Grind on 13 October 2026 so crews can repair and upgrade it, and it stays shut seven days a week until 10 November. Grouse Mountain plans to reopen it on 11 November. The BCMC Trail stays open and tops out at the same place, so wear hiking shoes with good ankle support and carry warm layers and plenty of water.

The Red Skyride stops running while Grouse fits new cabins
Grouse Mountain shut the Red Skyride on 28 September 2026 to swap the tram's original 1976 cabins for new ones that carry up to 95 people. The Blue Grouse Gondola keeps running between the base and the top of the mountain, and hikers coming off the BCMC Trail or the Grouse Grind ride it down. Grouse has set no reopening day yet and says it will announce one.

Grouse had not posted 2026/27 day or night ticket prices by 16 October 2026, so the figures here come from 2025/26. That winter an adult paid $94 on weekdays and $104 on weekends and holidays. The $104 rate also covered the 21 December to 4 January break. Children aged 5 to 12 paid $44 for a weekend day. A night ticket valid after 3 pm cost $74 for an adult and $34 for a child. Until 5 November 2026 the 2026/27 Early Bird Unlimited pass costs an adult $659, and the regular winter rate is $1,049. The Early Bird Weekday pass costs $439. Ikon Pass holders get two Bonus Mountain days at Grouse in 2026/27. The blackouts fall on 26–30 December 2026, 16–17 January 2027 and 13–14 February 2027. Grouse winter pass holders also get Mountain Interchange discounts at partner resorts. Grouse's ticket pages don't say whether the posted prices include GST.

Every lift ticket includes the Blue Grouse Gondola from the base to the ski area.
The ski area sits on the plateau above the base, and every lift ticket includes the gondola ride up and down. The Red Skyride tram closed on 28 September 2026 for new cabins, so the Blue Grouse Gondola carries everyone until it reopens. All the lots at the base charge for parking.
Winter drive times are routed over OpenStreetMap and allow 25% extra for snow, rounded to five minutes.
Every Grouse lift ticket includes the ride from the base on Nancy Greene Way up to the ski area on the plateau. The Blue Grouse Gondola opened on 12 December 2024, and its 27 eight-person cabins make the trip in 5.5 minutes. The Red Skyride tram closed on 28 September 2026 so its original 1976 cabins can be swapped for new ones that hold 95 people, and Grouse will announce a reopening date. Up top there are four quads, and the Olympic Express and the Screaming Eagle are the high-speed pair.
Night tickets start at 3 pm, and on a January 2026 weekday the chairs turned until 9 pm. Grouse counts 15 night runs among its 33. The 2025/26 season opened on 19 December with Paradise and the Paradise Jib Park on the Greenway chair, and lift tickets sold at a reduced rate until more terrain opened. That winter Grouse also trialled a Latitude 90 L60 snowmaking machine to stretch the downhill season. The L60 can make snow at temperatures up to +20°C.
Anyone who doesn't ski can buy a Mountain Admission ticket for the winter activities on top, and lift tickets include them as well. The Munday Alpine Snowshoe Park starts a short walk from the Peak Chalet. After dark the Light Walk starts at a light tunnel beside the Skating Pond and loops Blue Grouse Lake for no extra charge. Grouse acknowledges that the mountain stands on the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).
Worth knowing
- Grouse says buying lift tickets online at least a day ahead saves time and money.
- Arrive by transit and Guest Services takes $10 off a Mountain Admission or ski ticket. The discount can't be combined with other offers.
- Buy your return SeaBus or SkyTrain fare before you leave downtown. Grouse warns that a cash fare paid on bus 236 for the ride home covers the bus alone.
- Grouse bans dogs, drones, outside sleds and snow skates on the mountain, so leave them at home.
- North Shore Rescue answers about 130 calls a year, and it asks anyone heading past the ski area boundary to leave a trip plan and carry the ten essentials. Read Avalanche Canada's forecast before you go.

How does Vancouver's North Shore fit together between the mountains and the inlet?
Every neighbourhood on Vancouver's North Shore sits on the same narrow shelf between Burrard Inlet and the mountains, and the rivers coming down off the slopes divide it into valleys. You cross it along the water and climb it up each valley.

All three local hills switch on their lights once the snow comes, and two of them give non-skiers a reason to ride up at night as well. Your ride home decides which one suits the evening.
