Which hill on Vancouver's North Shore should you ride tonight?
Cypress Mountain lights the most terrain and keeps its chairs turning until 10 pm. Grouse Mountain is the one you reach by SeaBus and bus, and Mount Seymour suits learners and park riders.
By Adam BognarPublished

Ride Cypress Mountain for the most lit terrain and the latest lifts. Its chairs run from 5 pm to 10 pm every night, it listed 21 night runs across two peaks in February 2026, and an adult Night Owl ticket costs $75 for 2026/27 plus tax. Pick Grouse Mountain when you have no car, because the SeaBus and bus 236 drop you at the gondola and the last bus home leaves after midnight on weeknights. Mount Seymour suits beginners and park riders, with four lit terrain parks and lifts until 9:30 pm on last winter's timetable. None of the three is open yet on 17 October 2026, so the first night sessions come with the first snow.
We built this from each hill's own ticket, hours and trail-map pages and TransLink's fall 2026 timetable, read on 16 October 2026. Grouse and Mount Seymour hadn't posted 2026/27 night prices by then, so their rows say which season a figure comes from. Times are Pacific time.
How do the three hills compare after dark?
| Cypress Mountain | Grouse Mountain | Mount Seymour | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night runs | 21 of 61 (February 2026) | 15 of 33 | 13 of 40, parks included |
| Night lift hours | 5 pm to 10 pm daily | Night ticket from 3 pm, lifts to 9 pm on a January 2026 weekday | Until 9:30 pm (2025/26) |
| Adult night ticket | $75 for 2026/27, plus tax | $74 in 2025/26, and Grouse's pages don't say whether GST is included | Sold only in its online store, with no price table posted |
| Vertical | 610 m | Not published | 330 m |
| Getting up | 15 km of Cypress Bowl Road, or the Cypress Coach Lines shuttle | SeaBus and bus 236, then the Blue Grouse Gondola | Mount Seymour Road, or its own shuttle from Parkgate and Rupert Station |
| 2026/27 opening | 28 November 2026, projected by OnTheSnow | 18 December 2026, projected by OnTheSnow | 11 December 2026, anticipated by Mt Seymour |
| The drawback | A mountain road on winter tires or a private bus | Four chairs cover the whole area quickly | The road gate shuts at 10 pm from November to April |
Why does Cypress suit a full night of skiing?
Cypress has the longest runs and the most of them under lights. It spreads 61 runs over Black Mountain and Mount Strachan, and its February 2026 stats page put six night runs on Black Mountain and 15 on Strachan. T-33 into Collins is the longest line on the hill at 4.1 km and 610 m of drop, and both runs sit on the night list. Panorama and Windjammer are lit on Black Mountain.
The 2026/27 hours tab runs the lifts from 9 am to 10 pm every day from the day after opening to 23 December and again from 26 December. On opening day, on 24 and 25 December and through the last stretch of the season they stop at 4 pm, so check the date before you plan an evening there. Cypress prices move with the date and with how early you buy. The Night Owl ticket was $75 for an adult on 16 October 2026, and the $389 Bronze season pass covers Friday to Sunday evenings. Full Ikon Pass holders get seven days at Cypress in 2026/27 and Ikon Base holders five, and the Boyne Passport covers it with no blackouts.
Getting up is the work. The downhill area sits 15 km up Cypress Bowl Road from Highway 1 exit 8, and Cypress requires winter tires on that road from 1 October to 30 April. Without a car, the Cypress Coach Lines shuttle picks up at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Lonsdale Quay and Park Royal. Its fares page prices an adult return at $35 before GST and a fee it doesn't name, and the driver takes cash only. Its 2026/27 timetable wasn't posted by 16 October, so check the last bus down before you buy a night ticket. Drivers who bring two or more people earn a $10 Cypress Bucks voucher each day through the Cypress Mountain Carpool app.
Why does Grouse suit a night without a car?
Grouse is the hill you reach on transit. Ride the SeaBus 12 minutes from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay and take bus 236 from Bay 6 to the base in about 25 minutes. Every lift ticket includes the Blue Grouse Gondola up to the plateau, and Guest Services takes $10 off a ski ticket for anyone who arrives by transit. Buy your return SeaBus fare downtown, because a cash fare paid on the 236 home covers the bus alone.
The night ticket starts at 3 pm, and on a January 2026 weekday the chairs turned until 9 pm. Grouse lights 15 of its 33 runs, and the city spreads out below them. In 2025/26 an adult night ticket cost $74 and a child's $34, and Grouse hadn't posted 2026/27 prices by 16 October. The 236 leaves the base once an hour after about 7:30 pm on weekdays, at 8:32, 9:33, 10:35 and 11:35 pm, and the last one goes at 12:34 am. Saturday's last bus leaves at 12:32 am. On Sundays and holidays it goes at 10:32 pm, which is the one to watch.
The drawback is size. Four chairs serve the whole ski area, so a strong skier covers most of it in one evening. The Red Skyride has been closed since 28 September 2026 for new cabins, and the gondola carries everyone until Grouse names a reopening day. Friends who don't ski can buy Mountain Admission for the snowshoe park and the Skating Pond, and the Light Walk loops Blue Grouse Lake after dark at no extra charge. Ikon Pass holders get two Bonus Mountain days at Grouse, blacked out on 26 to 30 December 2026, 16 and 17 January 2027 and 13 and 14 February 2027.
Grouse acknowledges that the mountain stands on the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).
Why does Mount Seymour suit learners and park riders?
Seymour rates 40% of its terrain novice, and its four terrain parks with more than 30 features are lit for night riding. Mt Seymour counts 13 night runs with the parks among them, and in 2025/26 the lifts ran until 9:30 pm. Early and late in the season they may stop at 4 pm. Goldie Meadows has the only covered magic carpet in Vancouver for anyone on their first turns.
Tickets work differently here. Mt Seymour sells day and night tickets only in its own online store and voids tickets bought anywhere else. A weekend or holiday ticket covers a four-hour slot, and on weekdays you stay from your start time to close. Regulars on weeknights should look at the 2026/27 3Ski pass, which goes on sale on 3 November 2026 at $139 for an adult. A first-time holder adds the $5 card fee, which makes $144 on our sum before tax. It covers Sunday from 4:30 pm to Friday close outside holidays, includes the shuttle and blacks out from 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 and over the 13 to 15 February 2027 Family Day weekend.
Mount Seymour Road needs winter tires from 1 October to 31 March, and on winter weekends and holidays attendants turn away cars without an "Arriving by car" ticket or reservation. Mt Seymour closes the road at the gatehouse from 10 pm to 7 am every day from November 2026 to April 2027, so drive down before 10 pm. Its own shuttle runs from Parkgate Community Centre and from across the street from Rupert SkyTrain Station, and a return seat cost $10 and $15 in 2025/26. Arrange the ride down before you go up, since Mt Seymour reports Uber drivers turning down pickups at the ski area. With 330 m of vertical, a strong all-mountain skier runs out of new ground fast.
What should drivers from Washington know?
British Columbia stays on UTC−7 all year from 1 November 2026, so BC runs an hour ahead of Washington from 1 November until Washington's clocks go forward on 14 March 2027, by our reading of both calendars. When Cypress stops its chairs at 10 pm, it's 9 pm in Seattle. Both ski roads want winter tires marked M+S or with the mountain and snowflake symbol, and our winter tire guide sets out the dates.
Past each ski area boundary you're in the backcountry, and North Shore Rescue asks anyone heading out to leave a trip plan, carry the ten essentials and read Avalanche Canada's forecast first.
