Where should you take kids in North Vancouver and Vancouver?
A family of four paid $213.80 plus GST at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in 2026, so start with Lynn Canyon's free bridge if your kids walk on their own.
By Adam BognarPublished Updated

Lynn Canyon Park gives a family its suspension bridge for nothing, as long as the kids can walk a forest loop on their own feet. Capilano Suspension Bridge Park cost two adults and two children aged 6 to 12 $213.80 plus GST in 2026, and for that you get the treetop bridges and the cliff walk, with a free shuttle from Canada Place. Grouse Mountain is the winter day, with snowshoeing and Santa at the top on a $229 family ticket. On a wet day the Vancouver Aquarium suits toddlers best, since under-3s go free, and Science World suits children up to 12.
We compared the family days visitors ask about most, using the sight, event and transport files on North Van Guide as our researchers checked them against each operator's own pages on 16 October 2026. Every price is the posted 2026 price. Where we add tickets together for a family of two adults and two children, the sum is ours and the inputs sit beside it. We say "plus GST" where the operator does and tell you when its pages don't say.
Which family day suits which ages?
| Pick | Ages it suits | Family of four, 2026 | What the price includes | The drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lynn Canyon Park | Kids who can walk 1 km of trail and stairs themselves | Free; parking $3 an hour from 1 March to 31 October | The suspension bridge, the trails and the Ecology Centre by donation | No strollers on the bridge or the trails |
| Capilano Suspension Bridge Park | Under-6s go free; good for every age that can manage a swaying bridge | $213.80 plus GST for two adults and two children aged 6 to 12 bought online (our sum) | Every attraction in the park, Canyon Lights from 20 November and the free shuttle | Strollers wait in a parking area, and shoulder carriers aren't allowed |
| Grouse Mountain in winter | Children 5 to 12 for Santa and the sledding; teens for the snowshoe trails | $229 family ticket for two adults and two children; Grouse doesn't say whether GST is in | The gondola up and down and whatever's open on top that day | The Red Skyride is closed for new cabins, and the snow activities wait on the snow |
| Vancouver Aquarium | Toddlers and up, since under-3s go free | From $136.80 plus tax for two adults and two children aged 3 to 12 on the cheapest dates (our sum) | All day once you're in, with the Dragons exhibit and the 4-D film | The galleries ban wagons and jogging strollers |
| Science World | Children 3 to 12 | $126 plus GST for two adults and two children aged 3 to 12 (our sum) | The galleries and the live shows for the whole day | The Dome Theatre is closed with no reopening date |
| Shipyards Skate Plaza | Any age that skates; helmets are compulsory for 12 and under | Free in your own skates, or $27 for four rentals (our sum) | Free helmets and skate aids | Opens only in late November 2026 |
Should you take the kids to Capilano or Lynn Canyon?
Both parks hang a suspension bridge over a North Vancouver canyon, so decide on what you'll spend and how far the kids will walk.
Lynn Canyon Park costs nothing. Its bridge hangs about 50 metres above Lynn Creek, and the District of North Vancouver's park map gives the Twin Falls loop 1 km and 35 minutes, out over the bridge and back across the creek at Twin Falls. Start at the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre at the end of Peters Road, where the nature exhibits explain the rainforest and the naturalists hand out trail maps. The Lynn Canyon Cafe nearby opens from 10 am to 5 pm every day, and the washrooms in the café building have baby change tables. Lynn Canyon suits families with kids old enough to walk the whole loop. The drawback for younger children is access, because the bridge and the trails aren't stroller accessible, so bring a carrier.
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park charges an adult $76.95 online in 2026 plus GST, and a child aged 6 to 12 pays $29.95. Children 5 and under get their ticket free on arrival. Two adults and two children aged 6 to 12 come to $213.80 before tax on our sum, or $224.49 once the 5% GST goes on. With two teenagers aged 13 to 17 at $49.95 each, the family total rises to $253.80 plus GST. That buys the 137-metre bridge, which hangs 70 metres above the Capilano River, and the Cliffwalk along the granite wall of the canyon. Treetops Adventure strings seven small bridges between the trees on the same ticket, and the park reckons the whole visit takes two to two and a half hours on average. The free shuttle from Canada Place runs all year. Capilano suits families who want a full, organized day with a toddler in a carrier. Its drawback is the price. Strollers also stay behind in a parking area, so babies ride below railing height or in a purpose-made carrier, and shoulder carriers aren't allowed. Anyone under 15 has to come with someone 18 or older.
Between 20 November 2026 and 10 January 2027 Capilano runs Canyon Lights from 11 am to 9 pm every day except Christmas Day, on the same ticket. A sticker hunt called Winter Rainforest Explorers keeps kids busy, and WILDLIGHT throws 3D black bears and owls onto the forest. Arrive before dusk to see the canyon in daylight and stay for the lights.
How do you keep kids safe at Lynn Canyon?
Stay on the trails and behind the fences in every season. The District of North Vancouver says more than 40 people have lost their lives in Lynn Canyon over the last 50 years, in a safety notice it published on 21 July 2025, and people have died jumping from its cliffs. In July 2024 the District's fire chief warned of rocks hidden under the surface and strong currents, and he said the water is cold enough to bring on hypothermia even in summer. Phones work near the Ecology Centre and the bridge, and the signal drops deeper in the canyon.
North Shore Rescue asks anyone heading further into the forest to leave a trip plan with someone at home and to carry the ten essentials, light first, because a short winter afternoon catches people out. Black bears live in these forests. WildSafeBC says to stay calm and never run if you meet one, and BC's Wildlife Act makes it an offence to feed bears, cougars or coyotes, so keep snacks packed away.
Is Grouse Mountain worth it with kids in winter?
Yes, for a family that wants snow without skiing. A Grouse Mountain family ticket costs $229 in 2026 for two adults and two children on one date, and Lower Mainland residents pay $179. Bought singly, two adults at $89 and two children aged 5 to 12 at $49 come to $276, so the family ticket saves $47 on our sum. Tots aged 3 to 4 pay $5 and infants up to 2 ride free. Grouse's pages don't say whether GST is included.
Once the snow comes, the ticket covers the Munday Alpine Snowshoe Park and the mountaintop Skating Pond. Skates rent for $10 for adults and $6 for children. The Sliding Zone grooms two lanes, and since Grouse bans outside sleds, a visit there costs $10 a person: $5 to get in and $5 for a sled from the Fireside Hut, with timeslots at weekends. After dark the Light Walk loops Blue Grouse Lake for no extra charge. From 20 November to 24 December 2026 Peak of Christmas puts Santa's Workshop on top. A photo with Santa costs $5 and the money goes to Family Services of the North Shore, and Vixen the reindeer comes out for talks at noon and 3 pm.
Grouse suits families with children from about 5 up, who can stay out sledding and skating for a few hours. The drawback this season is the ride: the Red Skyride has been closed since 28 September 2026 for new cabins, so everyone rides the eight-person Blue Grouse Gondola, and the snow activities open only when there's snow to hold them. The Peak Chalet has no elevators, and a snow-covered ramp links the top station to its main floor in winter. Ask at Guest Services before you ride up if you're pushing a stroller.
Get there by SeaBus and the 236 bus from Lonsdale Quay, which takes about 25 minutes to the base, and Guest Services takes $10 off a Mountain Admission ticket when you arrive by transit. Grouse warns that a cash fare paid on the bus home covers the bus alone, so buy your return SeaBus fare downtown.
Which suits younger kids, the Aquarium or Science World?
Take toddlers to the Vancouver Aquarium and children aged 3 to 12 to Science World. The Aquarium in Stanley Park lets toddlers under 3 in free without a ticket. An adult ticket for ages 13 to 64 cost $41.95 to $57.95 plus tax in October 2026 by date, and on the cheapest dates a child aged 3 to 12 paid $26.45. Two adults and two children come to $136.80 before tax on those dates by our sum. A child ticket for Saturday 17 October cost $33.95. The tickets page says checkout adds the tax, while the ticket store says its date prices include it, so our sum takes them as before tax. Most families stay 90 minutes to two hours. The sea otters and sea lions live outdoors, and the Dragons reptile exhibit runs indoors through January 2027. The drawback is space, because the galleries are narrow and wagons, jogging strollers, push-cars and ride-on scooters stay out. The Aquarium has been cashless since May 2026.
Science World charges $37.50 for an adult and $25.50 for a child aged 3 to 12 in October 2026, plus GST, and children 2 and under go free. Two adults and two children come to $126 before tax and $132.30 after GST on our sum. Science World says to allow at least two hours, and one ticket covers the whole day. Every visitor under 13 needs an adult aged 19 or older with them. The drawback this winter is the Dome Theatre, which was closed when we checked, with no reopening date. On a long winter stay, look at the Family Membership, which Science World says pays for itself in three visits.
What do family tickets cost around North Vancouver and the Sea to Sky?
Seven sights in our files sell a family ticket, and they don't all mean the same family.
| Sight | Family ticket, 2026 | Who it covers | Tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grouse Mountain | $229, or $179 for Lower Mainland residents | Two adults and two children on one date | Grouse doesn't say |
| Sea to Sky Gondola | $165.95 online, $191.95 at the window | Two adults and two children or youth, round trip | Plus GST, our reading until the gondola says |
| Britannia Mine Museum | $152 with the underground tour, $121.60 without | The museum doesn't post the group size, so ask when you book | Plus GST, our reading until the museum says |
| Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre | $50, or $40 from 6 November to 16 December 2026 | Two adults and up to two children aged 6 to 18 | Plus GST |
| MONOVA | $38 | Two adults or seniors and three youth aged 6 to 17 | MONOVA doesn't say |
| Bill Reid Gallery | $32 | Two adults and two youth from one household | Plus GST |
| Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden | $32 | Two adults and up to three children under 17 | The garden doesn't say |
The Sea to Sky Gondola closes for maintenance from 16 to 26 November 2026 on its hours page, and its FAQ starts the closure on 9 November, so plan around the longer window. The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler closes completely from 2 to 5 November 2026 and opens Wednesday to Sunday from 6 November to 31 December.
Where can kids play for free in North Vancouver?
Head to the Shipyards, which sit a few minutes' walk east of the SeaBus in Lower Lonsdale. From late November the City of North Vancouver's Skate Plaza covers 12,000 square feet with ice, and a roof keeps the rain off it. Skating is free in your own skates. Rentals cost $8 for adults and $5.50 for kids in 2026/27, so a family of four pays $27 on our sum, and helmets and skate aids come free. Kids 12 and under must wear a helmet. The ice closes for about 30 minutes at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30 pm, and evenings and weekends draw the crowds. Last winter the rink opened on 28 November 2025.
Two indoor rooms next door cost little. MONOVA runs Campfire Storytime for children aged 2 to 5, with artifacts and songs, and its family ticket costs $38. The Polygon Gallery takes admission by donation and runs Kids First events for families. Both close on Mondays and Tuesdays.
How do you get around with kids and no car?
The SeaBus carries children 12 and under free, with no ticket, and an attendant or the courtesy phone at the gate lets them through. From Lonsdale Quay the 236 bus stops at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park about 18 to 20 minutes out and reaches Grouse Mountain in about 25. For Lynn Canyon, the 228 from Lonsdale Quay stops at Lynn Valley Road and Peters Road, a 15-minute walk from the park, and the 227 from Phibbs Exchange stops five minutes away. Capilano's own free shuttle leaves from Canada Place and two downtown hotels, and the ride back needs proof of admission.
