The name

English
SourceUpper Lonsdale starts at Highway 1 near 24th Street and climbs Lonsdale Avenue to Rockland Road, about 260 metres above the sea. The blocks up to 29th Street belong to the City of North Vancouver, and from 29th Street north you are in the District of North Vancouver. Parking and rental rules follow the municipality, so check which side of 29th Street an address sits on. The shops take up two blocks of Lonsdale between 29th Street and Kings Road.
Queens Cross Pub at 2989 Lonsdale Avenue welcomes families with minors until 8:30 pm, and its kitchen runs until 10:30 pm Sunday to Thursday and until 11:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Carisbrooke Park fills a square block on Lonsdale at Osborne Road. Tempe Heights Park runs along the north side of Highway 1 with a playground and two tennis courts, and one court carries pickleball lines. On Chesterfield Avenue, the Tudor-style Chesterfield School for Boys went up around 1912–1913 and has held apartments since 2010.
Upper Lonsdale is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). The top of the neighbourhood opens onto the Baden-Powell Trail and the Mount Fromme trails. North Shore Rescue answers about 130 calls a year, and it asks everyone heading out to tell someone their route, their group, a turnaround time and when they expect to be back. Carry the ten essentials on every trip in every season, as the team asks. If you meet a black bear, WildSafeBC says to stay calm and never run. BC's Wildlife Act makes it an offence to feed bears, cougars, coyotes or wolves.
Worth knowing
- Before you head up the Baden-Powell Trail or onto Mount Fromme, leave a trip plan with someone, as North Shore Rescue asks, and carry the ten essentials even for a short walk.
- Keep garbage secure and never set it out the night before, which is when WildSafeBC says bears are most likely to be active.

How does Vancouver's North Shore fit together between the mountains and the inlet?
