Metro Vancouver closes the paved lot at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver has closed the paved parking lot at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park while construction goes on, and it gives no date for the lot to reopen. You can still park in the gravel lots and in the marked spaces along the road. Walkers and cyclists keep using the road. Follow the posted signs and whatever the work crews tell you.

Who should base here
Stay here if your days start on a trail. The 228 runs on up Lynn Valley Road toward Lynn Canyon, and Metro Vancouver puts the Lynn Headwaters entrance about 1.5 km on foot from the bus stop.
The name
Linn
The valley takes its name from Sapper John Linn of the Royal Engineers, whose surname was often misspelled Lynn until that spelling stuck.
English
Linn sailed to British Columbia with the Columbia Detachment in 1859 and stayed on when it disbanded in 1863. In 1869 he moved his family from New Westminster to a house he built on the north shore of Burrard Inlet, east of the creek that now carries the name, and he died in April 1876. The federal register records Lynn Valley as a name on 19 July 1979.

Things to do in Lynn Valley
Lynn Valley Road and Mountain Highway cross at the centre of the neighbourhood, and the District built its town centre around the Lynn Valley library and the civic plaza beside it. Lynn Valley Centre holds the everyday shopping next door. Delany's pours coffee on Lynn Valley Village Plaza. The District counts Lynn Valley as one of its two larger hubs for housing and services, and older buildings keep giving way to new apartments, so check its weekly construction traffic map before you drive in.
From the bus loop the 228 carries on up Lynn Valley Road, and the Peters Road stop is the one for Lynn Canyon Park and its suspension bridge. Farther up the road the End of the Line General Store sells JJ Bean coffee and its gluten-free, vegan Trail Pucks from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Its corner at 4193 Lynn Valley Road was the last stop on the Lynn Valley trolley line in 1910, and the shop took its name from that.
Lynn Canyon pulls crowds to its pools on hot days. The District's fire chief has warned of rocks hidden under the surface and water cold enough to bring on hypothermia within minutes, and people have died jumping from the cliffs. Stay on the trails and behind the fences in every season.
Above the village, Lynn Headwaters Regional Park and the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve run deep into Metro Vancouver's forest, and the Mount Fromme trails climb the slope to the west. North Shore Rescue answers about 130 calls a year and asks everyone to leave a trip plan and carry the ten essentials in every season. Running out of light is the main reason its volunteers go looking for overdue hikers. Start early on a short winter day, and expect phones to lose signal in the trees.

- The province named the District of North Vancouver a Bear Smart Community on 8 July 2024. Report a bear on 604-990-BEAR (2327), and keep food away from wildlife, since BC's Wildlife Act makes it an offence to feed or attract bears, wolves, cougars or coyotes.
