Should you ski Whistler Blackcomb from North Vancouver as a day trip or stay the night?
A weekday day trip from Lonsdale Quay gives you about 11 hours in Whistler, starting with the 5:47 am SeaBus. One night in the Village turns that into two mountains, an evening and a second morning.
By Adam BognarPublished

Stay one night if you can. A weekday day trip from North Vancouver works: the 5:47 am SeaBus and Epic Rides' 6:20 am coach put you in Whistler Village at 8:05 am, and the 7:00 pm coach home leaves you about 11 hours there. You still spend three and a half hours on the coach, and a Saturday start comes later, because the first weekend boats land too late for the first coach. Whistler Blackcomb's two mountains cover 3,307 hectares between them, and one night buys you the evening, a second morning on the lifts and a ride home at 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm.
We compared the two plans on the coach and SeaBus timetables posted for 2026/27, read on 16 October 2026, and on the lift prices Whistler Blackcomb's ticket page showed that day. Whistler Blackcomb prices every date on its own, so each ticket figure below names its date. The day-trip cost is our own sum, and the inputs sit beside it.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler acknowledges that it stands on the shared, unceded territory of the Líl̓wat Nation and the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). In June 2020 the two Nations, the Province, the municipality and Whistler Blackcomb signed a framework agreement on how they work together.
How do the day trip and the overnight compare?
| Plan | Leave North Vancouver | Time in Whistler | Getting there and back in 2026/27 | Suits | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekday day trip | 5:47 am SeaBus, then Epic Rides at 6:20 am | 8:05 am to the 7:00 pm coach | $52.60 for the coach and two SeaBus crossings, by our sum | Early risers with one free day | Three and a half hours on the coach in one day |
| Weekend day trip | 6:02 am SeaBus on Saturdays for the 8:00 am coach, or 8:02 am on Sundays for the 9:00 am | From 9:45 am or 10:45 am to the 7:00 pm coach | $51.00 for the coach and two weekend crossings, by our sum | Skiers tied to a weekend | Up to 2 hours 40 minutes less in Whistler |
| One night in Whistler Village | Any coach the afternoon before, such as the 4:00 pm | An evening and a full second day | The same $44 coach return, plus the room | Anyone who wants two mountains | Village hotels quote live rates, and some charge the stay weeks ahead |
| Driving | Whenever you like | Set by your own clock | Village Day Lots cost $19.50 a day in 2025/26 | Groups who split the car | Winter tires from 1 October to 31 March, and the 2026/27 parking rules weren't posted |
How does a day trip from North Vancouver run?
On a weekday, take the 5:47 am SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay, which lands at Waterfront at 5:59 am, and walk 846 metres to the Melville Street door of the Hyatt above Burrard Station. The OpenStreetMap routing engine gives that walk 11 minutes, so you reach Epic Rides' 6:20 am coach with time in hand. It runs non-stop to the Gateway Loop beside the Whistler Visitor Centre and arrives at 8:05 am. The last daily coach home leaves at 7:00 pm and reaches Burrard at 8:45 pm, and on Fridays a 9:00 pm coach runs too. The SeaBus runs until 1:22 am from Waterfront from Monday to Saturday.
Weekends start later. The first Saturday boat lands at 6:14 am, six minutes before the 6:20 am coach leaves, so plan on the 8:00 am coach, which runs from Friday to Sunday for most of the season and arrives at 9:45 am. On Sundays the first SeaBus lands at 8:14 am, in time for the 9:00 am coach. YVR Skylynx gives a later ride home from Friday to Sunday, when its last Standard coach leaves Whistler at 8:00 pm.
Watch opening week. Whistler Blackcomb targets Friday 20 November 2026 for opening day, conditions permitting, and Epic Rides posts no buses at all from 20 to 26 November. Skylynx covers that week from Melville Street, with its first Standard coach at 6:00 am from 22 November, a time the first SeaBus can't reach. Our car-free Whistler guide sets out every coach in detail.
What does one day on the mountain cost?
On a January Tuesday, about $283 from Lonsdale Quay if you buy the lift ticket online ahead, by our sum. Whistler Blackcomb's ticket page showed an adult price of $219 online for Tuesday 19 January 2027 when we read it on 16 October 2026, against $317 at the window on the day. The resort posts its prices before GST, so 5% brings the online ticket to $229.95. Add the $44 Epic Rides return and $8.60 for the SeaBus, at $5.10 in the morning and $3.50 after 6:30 pm, and the day comes to $282.55. Bought at the window, the same day comes to $385.45. Epic Rides doesn't say whether GST sits inside its fare, and transit fares carry none.
Dates move the price a long way. An adult window ticket cost $238 on opening day and $367 on the peak dates of 28 December 2026 and 13 February 2027, and the online prices on those days were $202 and $265. Peak dates for 2026/27 fall on 27 and 28 November, 26 to 31 December, 16 January and 13 and 14 February. Booking four or more weeks ahead saves the most, and an unused ticket refunds if you ask before 5 pm on its last day. Whistler Blackcomb also caps the tickets it sells each day, and it says popular days sell out.

What does a night in Whistler add?
The evening and a second morning. Bar Oso on Village Square opens at 4:30 pm for Spanish small plates, and Araxi next door starts dinner at 5:00 pm on weekdays and 4:30 pm at weekends, so you can eat without watching the 7:00 pm coach. Next morning, Whistler Blackcomb's First Tracks Early Access lets riders upload the Whistler Village Gondola between 7:30 am and 8:00 am, before the 6:20 am coach from Burrard Station has pulled in. The resort offers no night skiing, so the evening belongs to the Village.
Off the snow, a second day opens up the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre at 4584 Blackcomb Way, where the two Nations tell their own story. Adult admission costs $25 plus GST in 2026, and from 6 November to 31 December 2026 it opens Wednesday to Sunday only while its café and gift shop are refreshed. The Audain Art Museum opens Thursday to Monday from 11 am to 6 pm for $22 plus GST, a good fit for a storm day.
For the bed, Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside stands on Skier's Plaza at the foot of the gondolas, and Pangea Pod Hotel rents adults a private pod a short walk away. Nita Lake Lodge in Creekside sits beside its own gondola up Whistler Mountain, 5 km south of the Village. Our piece on sleeping up the Sea to Sky compares them with the coaches home.

Which ticket or pass makes sense for more than one day?
For two to four days, price the resort's own Day Pass and the Epic Day Pass against the dated tickets. Whistler Blackcomb's Day Pass sells 1 to 10 days for the season, from $160 for one day that leaves out the peak dates. Vail's Epic Day Pass covers Whistler only on its All Resorts tier, where one day cost US$147 and four days US$481 for anyone 13 or older on 16 October 2026, without peak dates. Canadian and Washington State residents can price Whistler Blackcomb's EDGE Card first, which Vail's August release put at CA$90 a day and up.
The full Epic Pass gives unlimited days at Whistler Blackcomb with no blackout dates, and it cost US$1,169 for an adult aged 31 or over on 16 October 2026. Vail posts no Canadian price, so your card's exchange rate sets the bill. Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain and Mount Seymour take no Vail passes, so the North Vancouver hills each need a ticket of their own.

Should you drive to Whistler instead?
Only with legal winter tires and a plan for parking. The OpenStreetMap routing engine gives 122.1 km and 121 minutes from Waterfront Station to Whistler Village in free-flowing traffic, and Whistler Blackcomb puts the drive from Vancouver at about 2 hours. From 1 October to 31 March Highway 99 from Horseshoe Bay is a signed winter tire route, and police run random tire checks at the Alice Lake turnoff. In 2025/26 the municipal Village Day Lots 1 to 3 cost $19.50 a day for a standard vehicle, and the resort had not posted its 2026/27 parking rules on 16 October 2026.
Driving up from Washington, reset your watch. British Columbia stays on UTC−7 all year from 1 November 2026, so BC runs an hour ahead of Washington from November to mid-March.
What should you know about the mountain itself?
Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain stand side by side with more than 200 marked runs and a published vertical of 1,609 m, and the Peak 2 Peak Gondola links them across 4.4 km in about 11 minutes. Beginners start in the Emerald Zone on Whistler or the Catskinner Zone on Blackcomb. Past the ski area boundary the ground is neither controlled nor patrolled, and Whistler Blackcomb sells its backcountry ticket only to riders carrying a transceiver they can show they know how to use, along with a probe, a shovel, skins and a phone. Save the ski patrol's on-hill emergency number, 604-935-5555, before you head up.
Quick answers
Can you ski Whistler Blackcomb as a day trip from North Vancouver?
Yes, best on a weekday. The 5:47 am SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay connects with Epic Rides' 6:20 am coach from Burrard Station, which reaches Whistler Village at 8:05 am, and the last daily coach home leaves Whistler at 7:00 pm on the 2026/27 winter timetable.

A weekday at Whistler Blackcomb from Lonsdale Quay came to $282.55 by our sum for Tuesday 19 January 2027, using the $219 online adult lift ticket with 5% GST, the $44 Epic Rides return and $8.60 for two SeaBus crossings. The same day with a $317 window ticket came to $385.45.
Does the Epic Pass work at Grouse Mountain, Cypress or Mount Seymour?

When does Whistler Blackcomb open for 2026/27?
Whistler Blackcomb targets Friday 20 November 2026 for opening day, conditions permitting. Epic Rides posts no coaches from 20 to 26 November 2026, so YVR Skylynx is the coach for opening week.

Where should you sleep for a Sea to Sky day so you don't have to drive back to Vancouver?
A night up the highway turns a ten-hour coach day into an evening by the mountains and a lie-in. The coaches still decide how you get home, so book the bed and the seat together.

Which hill on Vancouver's North Shore should you ride tonight?
Cypress Mountain lights the most terrain and keeps its chairs turning until 10 pm. Grouse Mountain is the one you reach by SeaBus and bus, and Mount Seymour suits learners and park riders.
