Can you do Whistler in a day without a car?

Yes. In winter 2026/27 the first coaches leave downtown Vancouver at 6:00 am on YVR Skylynx and 6:20 am on Epic Rides and reach Whistler Village by 8:05 am, and the last coaches home leave Whistler at 7:00 pm every day and later on weekends, which gives you about 11 hours in the village for $42 to $44 return. From North Vancouver the weekday plan works on the 5:47 am SeaBus and Epic Rides' 6:20 am coach, while Saturdays and Sundays start later because the first boats cross too late.
We compared the three coach companies that run north from Vancouver on their own 2026/27 timetables and fares, read on 16 October 2026, and worked out the connections from Lonsdale Quay on TransLink's SeaBus timetable. The walk from Waterfront Station to the coach stop comes from the OpenStreetMap routing engine. Times print in Pacific time.
Which coach gets you there and back in a day?
Epic Rides and YVR Skylynx both give you about 11 hours in Whistler, and the later coaches from Friday to Sunday stretch a weekend day further. The Squamish Connector appears for comparison, since it turns round at Squamish.
| Coach | Boards downtown | First coach up, winter 2026/27 | Last coach home | Time each way | Adult return, 2026/27 | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Rides | Melville Street door of the Hyatt, 1088 Melville Street, above Burrard Station | 6:20 am daily from 27 November | 7:00 pm daily, plus 9:00 pm on Fridays | 1 h 45 min, non-stop | $44, which Epic Rides calls all-inclusive without saying whether GST is in | No buses from 20 to 26 November 2026 |
| YVR Skylynx Standard | Melville Street outside the Hyatt Regency, or YVR | 6:00 am from downtown from 22 November | 7:00 pm Monday to Thursday, 8:00 pm Friday to Sunday | 2 h from downtown, 3 h from YVR | $42 from downtown; Skylynx doesn't say whether tax is included | Standard tickets can't be changed or refunded |
| Squamish Connector | 660 West Cordova Street, across from Waterfront Station | 9:50 am weekdays, 8:50 am weekends from 1 November | 2:45 pm weekdays, 4:30 pm weekends from the Squamish Adventure Centre | Runs to Squamish only | $48 with tax included | It never reaches Whistler |
How does Epic Rides run the day?
Epic Rides makes the fastest trip, straight through in 1 hour 45 minutes by its timetable, and it's the coach to catch from North Vancouver on a weekday morning. From 27 November 2026 the daily departures from Burrard Station leave at 6:20 am, 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. For most of the season Friday to Sunday adds an 8:00 am and a 2:00 pm, and from 18 December to 3 January those two run every day. The coaches pull in at the Gateway Bus Loop beside the Whistler Visitor Centre.
Coming home, the daily departures from Whistler leave at 9:00 am, 1:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and the 7:00 pm reaches Burrard at 8:45 pm. On Fridays a 9:00 pm bus gets in at 10:45 pm. Luggage and ski or snowboard gear ride free with no fixed limit, and an Epic Rides account lets you change a booking free up to 8 hours before departure.
Until 19 November the fall timetable runs with daily coaches at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm and the same 7:00 pm bus home. Then Epic Rides posts no buses at all from 20 to 26 November 2026, which takes in Whistler Blackcomb's target opening day of 20 November. YVR Skylynx is the coach for that week.
Skiers staying near UBC or on the West Side can catch the early winter bus at UBC on Thunderbird Boulevard at 5:40 am, at Broadway and Granville at 5:55 am or at Burrard and Comox at 6:05 am. It reaches the Gateway Loop at 8:05 am, the same minute as the 6:20 am from Burrard Station.
How do you catch the first coach from North Vancouver?
On a weekday, take the 5:47 am SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay, which lands at Waterfront at 5:59 am. The walk to the Melville Street door of the Hyatt is 846 metres and 11 minutes by the routing engine, so you reach the stop around 6:10 am with ten minutes in hand. The Expo Line runs one stop from Waterfront to Burrard in 2 minutes if your legs want a break.
Weekends need a later coach. The first Saturday boat leaves Lonsdale Quay at 6:02 am and lands at 6:14 am, six minutes before the 6:20 am leaves, so plan on the 8:00 am coach, which runs from Friday to Sunday for most of the season. On Sundays and holidays the first SeaBus leaves at 8:02 am and lands at 8:14 am, which puts the 9:00 am daily coach in reach and has you in Whistler at 10:45 am.
The SeaBus fare depends on the clock. A weekday crossing before 6:30 pm costs the two-zone fare of $5.10 by tap, and after 6:30 pm, at weekends and on holidays it costs $3.50. On a weekday the whole day costs $52.60 from Lonsdale Quay by our sums, with $44 for the coach and $8.60 for the two crossings at the morning and evening fares. Transit fares carry no sales tax. The SeaBus runs until 1:22 am from Waterfront from Monday to Saturday and until 11:22 pm on Sundays, so the 7:00 pm coach home leaves hours to spare.
When does YVR Skylynx make more sense?
Take YVR Skylynx when you fly in and want to go straight up, or on a Saturday or Sunday, when its 8:00 pm coach is the latest one home. It also covers 20 to 26 November, when Epic Rides posts no buses. Its Winter and Spring 2026/27 timetable runs from 22 November 2026 to 19 April 2027. The Express leaves YVR at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm and reaches Whistler's Gateway Loop 2 hours 15 minutes later for $65 one way. The Standard coach takes 3 hours from the airport because it calls at Melville Street downtown and at the Squamish Adventure Centre, and it costs $55 one way or $75 return from YVR. From downtown the Standard fare drops to $32 one way and $42 return. The Skylynx price page doesn't say whether tax is included.
For a day trip from downtown, the first Standard coach leaves Melville Street at 6:00 am and reaches Whistler at 8:00 am. The last Standard coaches south leave Whistler at 7:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and at 8:00 pm from Friday to Sunday, and they reach downtown 2 hours later. Each ticket carries two bags and one set of skis or a snowboard free, and every extra piece costs $10. Children from 6 to 12 pay half and under-6s ride free.
Until 21 November, Skylynx runs its summer and fall timetable. Its first Standard coach leaves YVR at 7:00 am and calls at Melville Street an hour later, which gets a downtown rider to Whistler at 10:00 am, and a 2:30 pm Express runs non-stop from downtown and reaches the Gateway Loop at 4:15 pm. On the way home the last Standard leaves Whistler at 7:00 pm every day and reaches YVR at 10:00 pm, and the 6:00 pm Express ends downtown at 7:45 pm. Standard tickets can't be changed or refunded, so buy a Flexible ticket at $59 one way from YVR if the day might move. When a late flight makes you miss the bus, Skylynx moves you free to the next coach of the same ticket value.
Can you stop in Squamish on the way?
Only on YVR Skylynx, and Squamish makes a better day of its own. Epic Rides runs non-stop. Skylynx Standard coaches call at the Squamish Adventure Centre when you reserve the stop at booking.
The Squamish Connector is the coach built for Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola, and it goes no further north. On its winter schedule from 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, buses leave 660 West Cordova Street across from Waterfront Station at 9:50 am, 11:30 am and 5:30 pm on weekdays, and at 8:50 am, 9:50 am, 1:45 pm and 5:30 pm at weekends and on holidays. The fare is $37 one way or $48 return with tax included. The last bus south leaves the Squamish Adventure Centre at 2:45 pm on weekdays and at 4:30 pm at weekends, and it picks up walk-ons at the gondola 15 minutes later on weekdays and 10 minutes later at weekends. No Connector bus stops in North Vancouver itself, and the nearest pickup is on Taylor Way in West Van, by reservation only. Our Squamish day trip builds the day around those times.
Does anything fly to Whistler in winter?
No. Harbour Air's Whistler seaplane flew one trip each way a day from the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre between 11 May and 4 October in 2026, leaving Vancouver at 10:00 am, and the airline lists no winter flights.
What should you plan around once you're in Whistler?
Plan dinner around the 7:00 pm coach. Bar Oso on Village Square opens daily at 4:30 pm for Spanish small plates, and Araxi next door starts dinner at 5:00 pm on weekdays and 4:30 pm at weekends, so book a table that fits the bus. The Resort Municipality of Whistler acknowledges that it stands on the shared, unceded territory of the Líl̓wat Nation and the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). Start a first visit at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre at 4584 Blackcomb Way.
In summer Epic Rides carries bikes free from spring to fall in a space you reserve, and it refuses e-bikes all year. From July to September, wildfire smoke and closures shape Sea to Sky plans, so check the BC Wildfire Service and DriveBC the night before. Anyone driving instead needs legal winter tires on Highway 99 from 1 October to 31 March, and our winter tire guide covers the rule.
