Trail closure
The Grouse Grind closes for maintenance until 10 November
Metro Vancouver closed the Grouse Grind on 13 October 2026 so crews can repair and upgrade it, and it stays shut seven days a week until 10 November. Grouse Mountain plans to reopen it on 11 November. The BCMC Trail stays open and tops out at the same place, so wear hiking shoes with good ankle support and carry warm layers and plenty of water.

The Red Skyride stops running while Grouse fits new cabins
Grouse Mountain shut the Red Skyride on 28 September 2026 to swap the tram's original 1976 cabins for new ones that carry up to 95 people. The Blue Grouse Gondola keeps running between the base and the top of the mountain, and hikers coming off the BCMC Trail or the Grouse Grind ride it down. Grouse has set no reopening day yet and says it will announce one.

Weather and cancellations
The 236 climbs Nancy Greene Way to the Skyride base at the top of Capilano Road, and TransLink posts any detours or delays on its alerts page for route 236.
Ride the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay and walk to Bay 6, where the 236 starts. The bus threads Lower Lonsdale and Marine Drive, climbs 22nd Street through Pemberton Heights and runs up Capilano Road on the east bank of the Capilano River. About 18 to 20 minutes in, it stops at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It ends at the Skyride base on Nancy Greene Way, and Grouse Mountain puts the whole ride at about 25 minutes.
Weekends bring the steadiest service. From 9:16 am to 6:34 pm on Saturdays a bus leaves Lonsdale Quay every 15 minutes, and Sundays keep the same rhythm from 9:04 am. Weekday mornings are thinner, with buses an hour apart before 8 am and about every half hour from then until mid-afternoon. Between 3 and 7 pm on weekdays the gap tightens to 10 to 20 minutes.
Night skiers have a clear schedule for the way home. After about 7:30 pm the 236 leaves the Skyride stop once an hour on weekdays, at 8:32, 9:33, 10:35 and 11:35 pm, with the last bus at 12:34 am. Saturdays end with a 12:32 am bus and Sundays at 10:32 pm, which is the one to watch on a holiday weekend.
The 232 is the other way up. It leaves Phibbs Exchange, where buses from Lynn Valley and Deep Cove meet the R2, about every 30 minutes and climbs through Edgemont Village to the same Grouse Mountain stop in 34 to 46 minutes. Grouse Mountain takes $10 off a Mountain Admission or ski ticket for guests who arrive by transit, and Guest Services applies it.
Worth knowing
- Pay by tap or Compass Card on the bus. Cash on board buys a transfer that is good on buses only, and you would need a separate fare for the SeaBus back to Waterfront.
- Ask at Grouse Mountain Guest Services for the $10 transit discount on Mountain Admission or a ski ticket.
- For Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, get off at the Capilano Suspension Bridge stop on Capilano Road, 18 to 20 minutes from Lonsdale Quay.
- Mount Seymour and Cypress Mountain rely on private shuttles. Mount Seymour runs its own winter bus from Parkgate Community Centre and from opposite Rupert Station, and Cypress points riders to Cypress Coach Lines.

How did the Capilano River and Lynn Creek cut North Vancouver's two canyons?
Both canyons run through granite at the foot of the Coast Mountains. Lynn Creek still floods through its gorge every winter, and Cleveland Dam has held the Capilano back since 1954.

How does Vancouver's North Shore fit together between the mountains and the inlet?
Every neighbourhood on Vancouver's North Shore sits on the same narrow shelf between Burrard Inlet and the mountains, and the rivers coming down off the slopes divide it into valleys. You cross it along the water and climb it up each valley.

What can you do on Vancouver's North Shore mountains after dark?
All three local hills switch on their lights once the snow comes, and two of them give non-skiers a reason to ride up at night as well. Your ride home decides which one suits the evening.

Should you visit Capilano Suspension Bridge or Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver?
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park suits a first visit, because one ticket covers the higher bridge and the treetop walkways and its free shuttle runs from Canada Place. Lynn Canyon Park costs nothing to enter and gets you over the canyon and round a forest loop in about half an hour.
