What can you do from Canada Place before all-aboard?
With two hours, stay on foot along the waterfront and in Gastown. Lonsdale Quay across the SeaBus fits in three, and the free park shuttle to the Capilano Suspension Bridge needs four.
By Adam BognarPublished Updated

With two hours before all-aboard, stay within a 10-minute walk of the Canada Place cruise terminal. The Canadian Trail along the Canada Place promenade costs nothing and Flyover sits inside the same building. The Vancouver Lookout and Gastown are both under 10 minutes away on foot. Three hours opens up North Vancouver, with Lonsdale Quay 21 minutes off by SeaBus, and four leaves time for the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, which the park's free shuttle reaches from Canada Place in 25 minutes.
Each sight's minutes come from its own file on this site, timed by the fastest public way back to Canada Place on published timetables and OpenStreetMap walking routes, and we doubled them for the round trip. Capilano's 25 minutes is the outbound time on the park shuttle's timetable. Hours and prices come from each sight's own pages, read on 16 October 2026. Your cruise line sets the all-aboard time, so count back from the one on your boarding documents and keep the margin it asks for at the gangway.
Which sights fit the time you have?
The table runs from the terminal outward. "Time to allow" is the sight's own advice where it gives one.

What can you do without leaving the waterfront?
Walk the promenade first, because it's free and the views start at the door. The Canadian Trail runs along the west promenade in 13 equal sections for the 10 provinces and three territories, out to the North Point, where the port opens toward Stanley Park and the mountains above North Vancouver. At the start of the trail stands "Salish Sea, the Journey Within" from Susan Point's Coast Salish Arts, which Point made with her sons Thomas Cannell and Brent Sparrow and which went in during 2021. Stand at the North Point a few minutes before noon to hear the Heritage Horns play the first four notes of O Canada from the Pan Pacific's roof. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority says its Vancouver offices sit on the traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Flyover fills a wet half hour without a step outside. The motion seats fly you over Canada for 8 to 10 minutes after a pre-show, and Flyover suggests allowing 40 to 60 minutes for a single feature. Showtimes run every 15 to 20 minutes from 10 am to 7:30 pm daily. In October 2026 a single adult ride cost $31 booked online ahead and $38 to $40 at the gate, depending on the day, and Flyover's pages don't say whether tax is included. Riders must stand at least 102 cm tall.
Where can you walk in under 15 minutes?
The Gastown BIA puts Gastown a five-minute walk from the terminal, which makes it the closest neighbourhood to the gangway. Its steam clock at Water and Cambie streets dates from 1977, and most of the brick buildings along Water and Cordova went up between 1886 and 1914. The red-brick paving turns slick in the rain, so wear shoes with grip. Hastings Street along Gastown's southern edge runs through the Downtown Eastside, where many people experiencing homelessness and people who use drugs live and use services, and the usual downtown care with valuables applies.
The Vancouver Lookout on Harbour Centre is 9 minutes on foot past Waterfront Station. A glass elevator climbs the outside of the tower to a deck 168 metres above the street, and most visits take 30 to 45 minutes. The deck opens 10 am to 6 pm with the last elevator at 5:30 pm, and an adult ticket costs $23.88 in 2026 with taxes and fees inside the price. Each ticket gives one entry on the day you pick.
The Bill Reid Gallery is 10 minutes away in a courtyard between Georgia and Dunsmuir, with the Haida artist's sculpture and jewellery and contemporary Northwest Coast work. From October to May it opens Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and in summer it opens daily. Adults pay $15 plus GST. The Vancouver Art Gallery is 14 minutes on foot and opens 10 am to 5 pm, staying open to 8 pm on Fridays. It closes every Tuesday. Visitors from outside BC pay $35, and the gallery doesn't say whether GST is included.
Is Stanley Park close enough for a port morning?
Yes, for a morning on the seawall or at the Aquarium. Walk 7 minutes from Canada Place to Pender at Burrard, and the 19 bus reaches Stanley Park Loop in 10 minutes on TransLink's September 2026 timetable. The park opens from 6 am to 10 pm with free entry, and its washrooms open from dawn until dusk. The totem poles at Brockton Point come from several Nations, most of them far from Coast Salish country, and the Stanley Park page says whose each one is.
The Vancouver Aquarium sits inside the park and takes 23 minutes to reach from the terminal. It opens 10 am to 5 pm with last entry 90 minutes before closing, and in October 2026 an adult ticket cost $41.95 to $57.95 plus tax depending on the date. The tickets page says checkout adds the tax, while the ticket store says its date prices include it. Allow 90 minutes inside, which puts the whole outing at 2 hours 16 minutes with the bus there and back, by our sums.
What can you reach on the SeaBus?
Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver is 12 minutes across Burrard Inlet, and the boats leave Waterfront every 10 to 15 minutes for most of the day. The walk from the terminal to the SeaBus gates takes about 6 minutes. A crossing costs $5.10 by tap on a weekday before 6:30 pm and $3.50 after 6:30 pm, at weekends and on holidays in 2026, and TransLink fares carry no sales tax. The City of North Vancouver acknowledges the Quay's ground as the traditional and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Lonsdale Quay Market stands at the end of the ramp, and its Level 1 stalls open 9 am to 7 pm every day. The Food Hall on the same floor opens at 10 am, and its long tables face the harbour, so order the siu mai at Heritage Asian Eatery and watch the SeaBus come in. The Polygon Gallery next door shows photography with admission by donation. It opens Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, and until 9 pm on Thursdays. MONOVA at 115 West Esplanade tells North Vancouver's story on the same days, with Thursday evenings to 8 pm. An adult pays $15, and the museum's page doesn't say whether tax is added. Both shut on Mondays and Tuesdays, so a ship in port early in the week gets the market and the waterfront at the Shipyards.
Is the Capilano Suspension Bridge worth it on a port day?
Yes, if you have four hours. The park runs a free shuttle from Canada Place all year, and the ride back needs proof of admission, so keep the ticket handy. The park reckons the whole visit takes two to two and a half hours on average. The shuttle's 2026/27 timetable gives 25 minutes from Canada Place to the park by way of two downtown hotels, and the park puts the ride at about 20 minutes in light traffic, so the longer visit with the shuttle there and back makes 3 hours 20 minutes, by our sums. Check the seasonal departures in the shuttle PDF for your date. Cruise passengers can leave bags at the shuttle stop at Canada Place for free same-day storage at the park.
An adult timed ticket costs $76.95 online in 2026 plus GST, against $79.95 at the window, and it covers every attraction in the park. Hours change through the year, so check the park's calendar for your date. A taxi covers the 9.4 km from Canada Place in 15 minutes in free-flowing traffic by the routing engine, for about $24 on the meter before the tip by our estimate from the Passenger Transportation Board's 2026 rates.
Grouse Mountain needs most of a port day. Its free summer shuttle from Canada Place stopped on 12 October 2026, so the trip runs 52 minutes each way by SeaBus and the 236 bus. The Red Skyride has been closed since 28 September 2026 for new cabins, and the Blue Grouse Gondola carries everyone up and down in the meantime. A Mountain Admission Ticket costs an adult $89 in 2026, and Grouse's pages don't say whether GST is included. Guest Services takes $10 off for anyone who arrives by transit.
How much margin should you leave?
Leave more on a peak-season weekend. Canada Place handled about 1.4 million cruise passengers in 2026, and on most peak weekends from early May to late September 40,000 to 50,000 people pass through the terminal between Friday and Monday, so give the Canada Line and the taxi stands extra time then. Ballantyne Pier takes Vancouver's overflow ships, so check which berth your ship uses before you count minutes from Canada Place.
