Sylvia Hotel
$179 a night
The Sylvia stands on Gilford Street at the edge of Stanley Park, about 250 metres from the middle of English Bay Beach in a straight line on OpenStreetMap. Sylvia Court opened here as an apartment block in 1913 and held on as the West End's tallest building until 1956. The City of Vancouver designated it a heritage building in 1975. Rooms run from queens and kings up to three-bed units that sleep six, and the Two Queens with Kitchen suite lets a family or a long winter stay cook in.
Sylvia's Restaurant serves from breakfast at 7 am until dinner ends at 10 pm every day, and the cocktail lounge stays open from 11 am to midnight. Live music plays on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings from 8 to 10 pm, and Sunday adds jazz with prime rib. Ask for a bayside room if the water view matters, because the discounted winter rates leave those rooms out. Those weekly and monthly rates also carry a seven-day cancellation policy.
Highlights

- Dogs stay free, and the restaurant's patio welcomes them.
