What to order
- Pancakes from the breakfast menu
- Dishes made with the locally made organic tofu and tempeh
The Naam opened in Kitsilano in 1968, back when Fourth Avenue went by Rainbow Road, and it calls itself the city's oldest natural foods restaurant. The family-run room has stayed small on purpose. Every plate is vegetarian, and the kitchen cooks with organic tofu and tempeh made locally. Even the beer and wine are local and vegan.
On weekdays the breakfast menu runs from 11 am until 4 pm beside lunch, so a late start still gets you pancakes. Weekends open at 9 am, and the full breakfast stops at 1 pm. The Naam no longer stays open around the clock, and it now closes at 11 pm with last orders half an hour earlier. Its own FAQ says the business and the building are off the market and the restaurant carries on as usual.
