Granville Island suits food lovers and anyone with a wet afternoon to fill, because the Public Market is indoors and open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, and the trade-off comes in January, when the market shuts every Monday for maintenance.

In January the Public Market shuts every Monday.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation manages Granville Island, and CMHC acknowledges that the island sits on the traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. The island's own site calls the Public Market the jewel in its crown. Inside you'll find food and farm stalls with produce fresh from the ocean or the oven, and Market Artisans selling handmade goods beside them.
Early birds can buy coffee at Blue Parrot and JJ Bean from 7:30 am and at Petit Ami from 8:30 am, before the stalls open at 9. The Net Loft across the way opens 10 am to 6 pm. Through the winter the market keeps its 9 am to 6 pm day. It opens on statutory holidays apart from 25 and 26 December and 1 January, and it closes every Monday in January for annual maintenance.
Evenings bring improv. Theatresports runs on the island through 19 December 2026, and the 39th Vancouver Writers Fest comes to Granville Island from 18 to 25 October 2026. After a show, catch the 50 at West 2nd Avenue and Anderson by the island entrance. It reaches Waterfront Station in 20 minutes on TransLink's September 2026 timetable.
