Access
Strollers, wagons and wheelchairs are welcome on the paths, and VanDusen keeps an accessibility page for detail.
The City of Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association have run VanDusen together for 50 years. The hedge maze uses 3,000 pyramidal cedars planted in autumn 1981, with an observation terrace for anyone who'd rather watch. The Stone Garden sits on the roof of the old Point Grey reservoir, so it's built from lightweight volcanic rock.
Winter days are short here. The garden opens 10 am to 2 pm through November and December, closes on 25 December and keeps the same short day in January and February. Prices fall in the cold months, from $15.81 for an adult at the desk between April and October to $11.19 from November to March, before GST. The Festival of Lights fills the garden in the evenings from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 on its own timed ticket, since regular tickets don't cover special events.
The garden's code bans drones, outside alcohol, amplified music and sports gear, and it asks you not to feed or handle wildlife. Picnics are welcome, with lawn chairs and coolers on the Great Lawn only. Indigenous visitors get free general admission at the desk under the Park Board's First Nations, Métis and Inuit Access Policy. The Park Board says it works with the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations on cultural access.
Worth knowing
- Book online, because the Showpass price stays under the desk price for every age even after its ticket fee.
- Groups buying 10 or more paid tickets get 10% off, on Showpass or at the desk.
- For Canada Place, ride the 17 from Oak at 41st Avenue to Broadway–City Hall station in 16 minutes at midday on TransLink's September 2026 timetable. The Canada Line takes 7 more to Waterfront, and Canada Place is a 6-minute walk from there.
- A garden membership also covers the Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park.
