Troll's Restaurant has served fish and chips in Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver, since 1946, and it suits anyone with an hour to fill before a BC Ferries sailing. The Troll family closes it for good on 31 December 2027, and its evening closing time depends on foot traffic, so phone ahead before you come for dinner.
Ferry notice
The Horseshoe Bay skywalk comes out until late November
Foot passengers at Horseshoe Bay usually walk onto ships at Berths 1 and 2 over a skywalk, and BC Ferries has closed it so crews can extend its working life. Crews lift it off the site between 19 and 24 October 2026 and put it back in late November. Until then, follow the terminal staff and the signs, and check your ticket for where you board.

What to order
- Halibut and chips in the house beer batter
- Seafood chowder in New England white or Manhattan red
- The Famous Fisherman's Breakfast before an early ferry
- A bowl of Joe's Fish Stew on a cold day
Joe and Dorothy Troll started Troll's Fish and Chips on the Horseshoe Bay waterfront in 1946, and at first they opened only on weekends and holidays for the local fishermen. The ferries came in the 1950s and '60s and the restaurant grew with the traffic. Their son Gary took it over with his wife Carol in 1972. Ab Troll has run the place since 2017 and still opens the doors every morning.
Fish and chips come in the house beer batter with homemade tartar sauce and a side the menu calls Trollslaw. On the 2026 menu one piece of cod costs $22, and two pieces of halibut cost $45. Breakfast gets a full menu of its own. The Famous Fisherman's Breakfast piles three eggs, bacon, sausage and two slices of French toast onto one plate for $26. On a wet winter afternoon Joe's Fish Stew makes sense, since it puts cod, salmon, halibut and baby shrimp in Manhattan red chowder for $30.
West Vancouver council approved a five-storey boutique hotel for the corner of Bay Street and Royal Avenue on 22 June 2026. According to Ab Troll, his family thought hard about who should buy the property. The restaurant closes on 31 December 2027 when its lease runs out, and manager Kim Montgomery has confirmed the date to the North Shore News. On the approved plans, a new restaurant space takes the corner where Troll's stands now.
