Thomas Haas Chocolates

Thomas Haas learned his trade in his great-grandfather's café in the Black Forest town of Aichhalden, which opened in 1918. He came to Vancouver in 1995 as executive pastry chef at the Four Seasons and later helped Daniel Boulud launch his restaurant Daniel in New York. He and his wife Lisa then built their own business back in Vancouver. The North Vancouver café is one of two. The other stands on West Broadway in Kitsilano.

The counter holds chocolates and bars beside pastries and sandwiches. Each winter brings a holiday collection, and the 2026 one is already on the website. Haas has kept the business at two stores by choice, he says, so he can know everyone by name.
