Look out for these at the market
- Bands play the Main Stage and the smaller Cates Deck, and the organizers say every act on the bill gets a real fee.
- Garden Beer Market Co. runs the beer garden with four rotating local taps and a cocktail list.
- The organizers say a third of the food trucks and makers come from Vancouver's North Shore.
The night market began in May 2011 as a Friday gathering for small local businesses, and the CONIFER Entertainment Society has run it since 2022. It sets up in Shipbuilders' Square beneath a yellow shipyard crane that the organizers have named Colby. Food trucks and a makers' marketplace fill the square while bands play two stages. On a typical Friday the organizers count 6,000 to 10,000 people.
Families with small children do best in the first two hours, which the organizers call the unhurried window for kids. Most regulars aim for 5 to 6:30 pm, when the food trucks are at full speed and the headliner is still to come at 7. The beer garden is 19 and over with ID at its gate, and it pours its last round at 9:45 pm.
Wet Fridays go ahead with tents under the crane. The SeaBus from Waterfront Station docks at Lonsdale Quay, and the organizers put the walk from the terminal at four minutes. The City of North Vancouver acknowledges this ground as the traditional and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Worth knowing
- Leave the car at home on a Friday, because the organizers say street parking fills by 6:30 pm and the Lonsdale Quay garage charges $3 an hour after 5 pm.
- The organizers welcome dogs on a leash outside the beer garden and keep water bowls at the info tent.
