Where do you eat and drink in Deep Cove and on the Seymour side of North Vancouver?
Deep Cove's kitchens line one short street above the water, and most of them close by late afternoon. Plan the day around a doughnut at 6 am and the last through bus at 5:45 pm.
By Adam BognarPublished

Eat breakfast and lunch on Gallant Avenue in Deep Cove, where Honey Doughnuts opens at 6 am every day and two sandwich and taco counters sit a few doors from it, and book dinner at Arms Reach Bistro on the water, which serves until 9 pm. Watch the clock, because Deep Cove keeps early hours. Honey's shuts at 5 pm, and the last weekday 211 through to downtown Vancouver leaves the village at 5:45 pm. For a pint after that, Bridge Brewing pours until 10 pm or later at its Charlotte Road taproom, about 10 minutes on foot from Phibbs Exchange, where the Deep Cove buses meet the R2.
We drew this from North Van Guide's files on Deep Cove and on the three Gallant Avenue places we keep full records on, each read from the business's own site and menu on 16 and 17 October 2026, and from Bridge Brewing's own page for its Charlotte taproom, read on 17 October. Nobody ate or drank anything for this piece. Prices are the ones each menu printed in 2026, before tax, and where a place publishes none we say so.
The District of North Vancouver acknowledges the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) as the original peoples of the unceded lands it sits on. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation's own page centres its community on səlilwət (Burrard Inlet) between Maplewood Flats and Deep Cove.
Which places should you know about, and when do they open?
| Place | Where | Hours | What to order | Price | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honey Doughnuts & Goodies | 4373 Gallant Avenue | 6 am to 5 pm daily, breakfast until 4 pm | The original honey doughnut | The menu prints no prices; Daily Hive paid $3.75 a doughnut in August 2025 | Expect a line |
| Dip Co Delights | 4381 Gallant Avenue | 10 am to 4 pm, Wednesday to Sunday | The Marseille on Focabari bread | The site prints no prices | Closed for a break until 23 October 2026, and it stops when the bread runs out |
| Deepwater Micro Eatery | 4369 Gallant Avenue | Our file holds no hours | Tacos with a can of beer or cider | Our file holds no prices | Pickup only |
| Arms Reach Bistro | 4390 Gallant Avenue | Noon to 9 pm weekdays, 11 am to 9 pm at weekends | Pan-roasted BC lingcod | Mains $36 to $43 | Patio seats can't be booked |
| Bridge Brewing, Charlotte | 1448 Charlotte Road, Lower Lynn | 11 am to 10 pm Sunday to Thursday, to 11 pm Friday and Saturday | Three tacos and a flight | We didn't record its prices | It sits back toward the bridge, about 10 minutes' walk from Phibbs Exchange |
Where do you start the day in Deep Cove?
At Honey Doughnuts & Goodies, which has made its doughnuts on Gallant Avenue since 1996 and now belongs to Ashak and Ashifa Saferali. It suits early hikers and anyone coming down off Quarry Rock, since it opens at 6 am and stays open to 5 pm every day, holidays included. Ask for the original honey doughnut. When Daily Hive visited in August 2025 its writer described a cake doughnut soaked in honey, served still warm, and paid $3.75 for it, or $4.50 for a specialty flavour like maple-bacon. Breakfast plates run until 4 pm, and sandwiches go on the shop's own potato bread, which the menu says is vegan.
The drawback is the queue. Daily Hive called waiting in line a constant at Honey's, so come early or carry a box of six or twelve down to Deep Cove Park. The shop closes only on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Espresso comes from JJ Bean.
Where do you buy a picnic lunch?
A few doors along at Dip Co Delights, 4381 Gallant Avenue, where the Daniali family bakes Focabari every morning, a bread they created during the pandemic as a cross between Italian focaccia and Persian barbari. It suits a picnic on the beach, because the sandwiches run big and travel well. The Marseille layers roast turkey with French brie and the house berry sauce, and the shop calls it its most popular. Vegetarians can order the Mezze, and the Fusion is vegan.
Mind the calendar. Dip Co opens only from Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm, and it closes early on days the bread sells out. The family took a break from 5 to 22 October 2026, and the site says it reopens on Friday 23 October.
Deepwater Micro Eatery at 4369 Gallant Avenue is the third counter on the block. It sells tacos and burgers for pickup, and its online menu carries beer and cider in cans. Our file holds no hours or prices for it, so check its ordering page before you count on it.

Where can you sit down for dinner by the water?
Book Arms Reach Bistro, the sit-down room on the water that our files list in the village. Alistair Knox and chef Erick Kauko opened it in 2004, and it suits a long lunch after a paddle or an early dinner before the bus. On the dine-in menu we read on 16 October 2026, mains ran from $36 to $43, with pan-roasted BC lingcod at $42, and the butternut squash bucatini cost $25. Any pasta switches to gluten-free fusilli for $2 more.
Two nights stand out. On Tuesdays from 5 pm the feature burger comes with a local craft beer for $22 until the burgers run out, and on Sundays reserve-list bottles drop by 30% outside holidays. Book indoor tables online, because the patio goes first come, first served. The kitchen stops at 9 pm, and the bistro closes from 24 to 26 December.
The map
The map marks every place this piece visits.
Contours come from Mapterhorn, and the coast and water from OpenStreetMap.
Where do you go for a beer on the Seymour side?
Head back toward the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge to Bridge Brewing's Charlotte taproom at 1448 Charlotte Road in Lower Lynn. It pours from 20 taps, serves tacos three at a time on flour or corn, and fills growlers to take away. Bridge says children are welcome and dogs can join you on the patio. It opens from 11 am to 10 pm from Sunday to Thursday and to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, hours that outlast the village by a long way.
The catch is distance. The taproom sits about 780 metres from Phibbs Exchange, a walk the OpenStreetMap routing engine puts at about 10 minutes, so it works best on the way home. For a full evening of breweries, the four taprooms east of the Shipyards in Lower Lonsdale make an easier crawl, and our walk from the Quay to the Shipyards covers them. In the village, our files find beer at Arms Reach with the Tuesday burger and in Deepwater's cans.

What do you do about the buses and the parking?
Plan the ride home first. The 211 from Burrard Station reaches Panorama Drive at Naughton Avenue in 45 to 57 minutes on TransLink's timetable effective 7 September 2026, for $3.50 by tap at any hour. The last 211 through to Burrard leaves Deep Cove at 5:45 pm on weekdays, 5:15 pm on Saturdays and 4:40 pm on Sundays. After that the 211 and the 212 still run to Phibbs Exchange, where the R2 carries on to Lonsdale Quay and the SeaBus, and the 212 runs about every half hour until about 9 pm, then hourly.
Drivers pay $3 an hour from 8 am to 6 pm at Deep Cove Park and Panorama Park between 1 March and 31 October, so a visit from November to February parks free. On summer weekends the District says the lots fill early and stay full. Parkgate, 2.8 km west on Mount Seymour Parkway, has the Safeway and COBS Bread for anyone stocking up before a day on the mountain.

What should you know before Quarry Rock or a waterfront picnic?
Eat after the hike, and carry what North Shore Rescue asks for on the way up. The Baden-Powell Trail climbs out of the village to Quarry Rock, and NSR asks every hiker to leave a trip plan with someone reliable and to carry its ten essentials, with a light at the top of the list. December light fades early under the trees.
Black bears live in the forest around Deep Cove, and feeding one is an offence under BC's Wildlife Act, so pack every scrap out of the park. The Wild Bird Trust closed every trail at Maplewood Flats on 4 October 2026 because bears were foraging there after a poor berry and salmon year. For a picnic table with a view, Whey-ah-Wichen/Cates Park has a new accessible shelter, and the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the District manage the park together.

How does Vancouver's North Shore fit together between the mountains and the inlet?
Every neighbourhood on Vancouver's North Shore sits on the same narrow shelf between Burrard Inlet and the mountains, and the rivers coming down off the slopes divide it into valleys. You cross it along the water and climb it up each valley.

Why spend the night on Vancouver's North Shore instead of downtown Vancouver?
A bed on Vancouver's North Shore puts you at the foot of the mountains before the day-trippers cross the water. You pay for it in choice, since North Vancouver's waterfront has three hotels.
