Check the hours before you go
The gallery and its shop open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Mondays and Tuesdays the doors stay closed.
Meet the makers on the shelves
The gallery sits inside the Deep Cove Cultural Centre on Gallant Avenue, which it shares with the Deep Cove Heritage Society and two theatre companies. Its Gallery Shop stocks handmade gifts by more than 60 local artists, and the gallery splits every sale with the maker. Pottery leads the shelves. You'll find carved stoneware tree bowls and translucent Polar Ice porcelain thrown by a member of the Parkgate Community Centre.
Deep Cove itself turns up in the work. Peter Fruhling cuts bold linoleum-block prints of the cove, and Karole of Red Boat Studio in Deep Cove makes playful ceramics inspired by the land and sea. Beryl Hickinbottom dyes and weaves her own textiles. Under the gallery's rules, its shop artists sell nowhere else on Gallant Avenue.
The main gallery changes its exhibition through the year, and entry is free. The gallery's Winter Gift Gallery is a separate holiday sale that also takes food makers. Check the gallery's site for this year's dates before you plan a December trip.
Worth knowing
- Park once and walk, because the gallery stands on Gallant Avenue in the middle of Deep Cove's few blocks of shops and cafés.
- Read the artist profiles on the gallery's Gallery Shop page before you go, since it introduces most of the makers on the shelves.
