Road closure
Cypress Bowl Road shuts to cyclists while crews repave it
Crews started repaving 12 km of Cypress Bowl Road on 13 July 2026, from the District of West Vancouver works yard at the bottom up to Cypress Mountain Resort, and BC Parks bars cyclists from the road until they finish. Cars still get through to Cypress Park and the ski area. Expect delays and single-lane alternating traffic on gravel. Some roadside lots and turnoffs are hard to get into while the crews work there. BC Parks still listed the closure on 16 October 2026 and expects the paving to be done by the end of October.

Rent your skis or snowshoes here
Cypress rents classic and skate packages by the day or for the whole season from its Nordic rental shop at the trailhead. Seasonal rentals go only to Nordic season pass and Sky Card holders, and the gear stays on the mountain and goes back at the end of each day. The rental page lists a pulk for towing a small child at $31, adult poles at $6 and neo overboots at $10, plus tax. Snowshoe rentals stop two hours before the snowshoe trails close.
Book a lesson before your first lap
Cypress teaches both classic and skate. Group lessons for ages 13 and up cost $86 and a one-hour private lesson for ages 6 and up costs $132 for 2026/27, plus tax. Skiers 16 and over can sign up for a skate clinic of four 90-minute lessons at $276, and kids aged 7 to 11 get a two-session classic camp from 9:30 to 11:30 am for $66. Online booking closes 24 hours before a lesson starts.
Cypress Mountain runs the Nordic area on Hollyburn Ridge in Cypress Provincial Park, two kilometres short of the downhill area on Cypress Bowl Road. The ticket office, rental shop, warming hut and Nordic Cafe all sit at the trailhead around the corner from the tube park. Cypress counts 60 trails from beginner to advanced terrain. It also says its 12 lit trails make up the only night cross-country skiing on Vancouver's North Shore, and it sells the evening ticket for after-work laps.
Hollyburn Lodge stands by First Lake, and the Hollyburn Heritage Society puts it 15 to 20 minutes on foot from the Nordic parking lot by the Hollyburn Trail or Lower Burfield. Swedish-born Rudolph Verne and his friends officially opened the Hollyburn Ski Camp there in January 1927. The old lodge came down in 2015 and a new one went up on the same site in the same shape, and it opened officially on 15 January 2017. In winter Cypress sends snowshoers to it on an evening walk called Lights of Hollyburn that runs one kilometre through old-growth forest. You need to reserve a spot.
Cypress lists its 2026/27 cross-country trail ticket at $38 online for a full day or an evening, plus tax, and a snowshoe ticket at $24. Anyone planning several visits should look at the Sky Card, which loads two to five discounted days, or the $459 adult season pass. Both the season pass and Sky Cards of three days or more come with free parking. Cypress keeps dogs and cats off all of its ski and snowshoe trails.
From downtown Vancouver, cross the Lions Gate Bridge, follow Taylor Way to Highway 1 and take exit 8 onto Cypress Bowl Road. Winter tires are required on that road from 1 October to 30 April. Once you park, Cypress's lot shuttle carries you to the Nordic area. Cypress Mountain acknowledges that it operates on the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam).
Worth knowing
- Buy trail tickets online before you drive up, since Cypress prices them lower in advance and asks you to show the credit card and matching ID at pickup.
- Check Cypress's Nordic report and Hours page on the morning you go. Cypress posts the day's trail grooming and operating hours there.
- Parents with a child too young to ski or snowshoe can collect a free access pass at the Nordic ticket office or Nordic Rentals for a baby in a backpack or a pulk.
- Anyone leaving the groomed trails for Hollyburn Peak should leave a trip plan with someone reliable and carry North Shore Rescue's 10 essentials. A headlamp tops that list.
- Cypress Coach Lines runs a private shuttle bus to Cypress Mountain from Vancouver that you reserve ahead. Ask whether your run stops at the Nordic area.
