The blue-and-white boats run continuous loops from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Granville Island is the hub, and the boats from its dock to Sunset Beach at the foot of Thurlow Street keep the full day from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. The run west to the Maritime Museum in Kitsilano starts at 7:48 am and ends at 6:24 pm, and the run east to Olympic Village stops at 8:10 pm.
Fares go by distance. In 2026 an adult pays $4.25 one way to Sunset Beach, $6 to Yaletown, $7 to the Maritime Museum and $8 to Olympic Village, with children 4 to 12 and seniors paying less and children 3 and under free. Pay the operator on board with a tap card, debit, credit or cash. False Creek Ferries sits outside TransLink and takes no Compass Card, and its tickets don't work on the rainbow Aquabus boats that share some of the same docks.
Each boat seats 12, so large groups should call ahead. Dogs ride if they are clean, dry and leashed. Strollers have to fold and children come out of them before boarding, and only collapsible wheelchairs fit. Jay Benford designed the first version of the boat, and the company's official name for the design is the False Creek Ferry.
Worth knowing
- Walk right down the ramp to the float so the operator can see you waiting.
- Buy a book of ten tickets if you plan to cross more than a few times. They never expire.
- Families can treat the 20-minute mini-cruise from Granville Island as a short harbour outing. It sails every 15 minutes from 9:33 am to 5:21 pm.
- Cyclists can take the Aquabus instead, which carries bikes on its platform boats.
