Lynn Canyon makes an easy half-day from Lonsdale Quay for families and walkers who want a free suspension bridge 50 metres above Lynn Creek and a walk in the forest around it. The trade-off is daylight, because Lynn Canyon Park opens from dawn to dusk and a December afternoon closes in early.

Metro Vancouver closes the paved lot at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver has closed the paved parking lot at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park while construction goes on, and it gives no date for the lot to reopen. You can still park in the gravel lots and in the marked spaces along the road. Walkers and cyclists keep using the road. Follow the posted signs and whatever the work crews tell you.

Trail closure
The Baden-Powell staircase into Lynn Headwaters stays closed until late November
Metro Vancouver is replacing the staircase off Lynn Valley Road that links the Baden-Powell Trail with Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. Nobody can pass that section while the work goes on. Metro Vancouver expects construction to last until late November 2026, so follow the posted signs and take another route. Its neighbourhood connector map on the park page shows the other ways in.

Trail closure
A damaged bridge closes the upper Lynn Loop at Lynn Headwaters
Metro Vancouver closed a bridge on the upper Lynn Loop Trail in October 2026 because structural damage has left it unsafe to cross. Its map of 2 October marks the bridge where the Lynn Loop Spur comes in. A rough, steep bypass runs through the streambed, and Metro Vancouver says only advanced hikers should use it, with extreme caution. Heavy rain or high water can make that crossing impassable. Everyone else should pick another trail or walk back the way they came.

Is it for you?
Lynn Canyon makes the easiest forest outing from Lonsdale Quay, and winter light sets the length of the visit.

- You want a free suspension bridge and a canyon walk with children who can manage steps.
- You would pair a forest walk with a coffee in Lynn Valley on the way back.
Think twice if
- You need step-free paths, since the bridge and the park trails aren't wheelchair or stroller accessible.
Give it half a day

The 228 leaves Lonsdale Quay Bay 2 about every half hour and climbs to Lynn Valley in about 20 minutes. Get off at Lynn Valley Road and Peters Road, as the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre advises, and walk 15 minutes down Peters Road into the park. The 227 community shuttle from Phibbs Exchange stops at Peters Road and Duval Road, and from there the park is 5 minutes on foot. It runs every 30 minutes until the last trip leaves Phibbs at 8:15 pm. Every bus here costs one zone, so the ride from the Quay is $3.50 by tap.
The suspension bridge hangs 50 metres above Lynn Creek, and crossing it costs nothing. Visitors paid 10 cents when the park opened in 1912. The walk from the main parking lot takes about 2 minutes and drops down about 30 steps, so strollers and wheelchairs can't make it. The Ecology Centre opens from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays and from noon to 4 pm at weekends and holidays outside the summer season, and it asks for a donation. Washrooms at the Lynn Canyon Cafe building stay open all year, and the café serves coffee and light lunches from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
The District of North Vancouver's fire chief has warned of rocks hidden under the surface and water cold enough to bring on hypothermia within minutes, and people have died jumping from the cliffs. Stay on the trails and behind the fences. North Shore Rescue asks every walker to leave a trip plan and carry the ten essentials, and a light comes first on that list. Phones can lose signal in the trees.
Back up the hill in Lynn Valley, the End of the Line General Store at 4193 Lynn Valley Road pours JJ Bean coffee from 9 am to 5 pm daily, and its corner was the last stop on the Lynn Valley trolley line in 1910. Lynn Headwaters Regional Park sits farther up the valley, and Metro Vancouver has closed its paved lot for construction while the gravel lots stay open. Dogs go on a leash north of Twin Falls Bridge in Lynn Canyon Park, and black bears live in these woods, so keep food packed away.
Worth knowing
- Catch a bus home by mid-afternoon in December and January, because Lynn Canyon Park closes at dusk.
- Park for free at the east lot off the northern end of Lillooet Road, or pay $3 an hour in the main lot between 1 March and 31 October.
- Pay by tap or Compass Card, because a cash fare's paper transfer won't open the SeaBus gates at Lonsdale Quay.
