Pingu
49°20′ N 122°58′ WMount Seymour
Pingu on the lower slopes of Mount Seymour in North Vancouver is a mountain bike trail built around four jumps and a large step-down, and it suits riders who want to work on their jumping. The trade-off is that no land manager grades it, so look at each feature before you commit to it.
The District of North Vancouver lists Pingu as a mountain biking trail with no difficulty grade. Its layer notes that the lower portion of the trail sits on land belonging to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Pingu runs from the Powerlines down to the Baden-Powell Trail beside Pangor. Arc'teryx funds it through the Trail Adoption Program of the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA).
An adoption day in fall 2026 drew 38 volunteers to refresh Pingu's four jumps and landings, and 32 of them were on their first trail day. They replaced compacted dirt with fresh mineral soil and pulled out protruding rocks. A small berm went in after one landing, and the large step-down got a slightly wider runout. The new dirt was still dry when they finished, so the NSMBA's trail crew planned to compact and shape it after rain. Earlier in summer 2026 the crew rebuilt the lip on the 20-foot table and topped up the gap takeoff with fresh dirt.
Worth knowing
- Session the step-down only once you have looked at its landing and runout, because no land manager rates Pingu's features.
- Tell riders ahead how many are in your group before you pass, as the NSMBA's etiquette asks, and on an e-bike yield to every rider on a regular bike whichever way they are going.
- Leave a trip plan with a friend and carry North Shore Rescue's 10 essentials, because the District of North Vancouver warns that many of its forest and mountain areas get no phone signal. Call 911 early if someone gets hurt or lost, since North Shore Rescue charges nothing for a rescue.
