Corkscrew
49°21′ N 122°58′ WVery Difficult Trail (Metro Vancouver)Mount Seymour
Corkscrew is a short Very Difficult mountain bike descent on the lower slopes of Mount Seymour in North Vancouver, and it suits riders who handle black-diamond terrain on the North Shore. Metro Vancouver gives it the hardest grade on its Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve map, so newer riders should pick another line.
Metro Vancouver's Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve map marks Corkscrew with a black diamond as a Very Difficult Trail. The same map puts a parking spot on Mount Seymour Road beside the top of Corkscrew and Mushroom, and Corkscrew drops south from there toward the Baden-Powell Trail. The District of North Vancouver's trail layer draws most of its line just outside the reserve's boundary and gives it no grade.
Metro Vancouver's 2026 work permit lets the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) maintain Corkscrew on approved trail days. In summer 2026 the NSMBA rebuilt the rock roll just past the Salvation junction with better drainage and a cleaner line. Crews topped up the tread from that junction to the end, and the small jumps with pointy landings became slightly bigger jumps with better landings.
Worth knowing
- Park at BC Parks' Old Buck trailhead on Mount Seymour Road and climb Lower Old Buck, which BC Parks names as the route mountain bikers take uphill. Empress Bypass carries no uphill traffic.
- On District of North Vancouver land the trailhead signs decide whether an e-bike may ride, and the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) asks e-bike riders to yield to everyone on a regular bike.
- Leave a trip plan with a friend and carry North Shore Rescue's 10 essentials, because the District of North Vancouver warns that many of its forest and mountain areas get no phone signal. North Shore Rescue charges nothing for a rescue, so call 911 early.
