Lower Old Buck
49°19′ N 122°58′ WMount Seymour
Lower Old Buck is the multi-use climb from the Old Buck trailhead on Mount Seymour Road into the lower trails of Mount Seymour Provincial Park in North Vancouver, and it suits anyone heading up the mountain on foot or on a bike. The trade-off is company, because BC Parks says mountain bike use on Old Buck runs high.
BC Parks gives Lower Old Buck as 5 km return with 322 m of elevation gain from the Old Buck parking lot, and its trail report calls it the main access to the lower mountain trail system. On the way up it links with connectors such as the Baden-Powell Trail and the Bridle Path. The District of North Vancouver's trail layer names the lower part Old Buck as far as the Baden-Powell junction and calls the climb above it Powerline Access Road. Neither land manager publishes a difficulty grade for it.
BC Parks asks mountain bikers to climb Lower Old Buck, because Empress Bypass carries no uphill traffic. It allows horses on Old Buck from the Old Buck lot to the Historic Mushroom parking lot and recommends against riding them there, since so many mountain bikes use the trail. A pit toilet and an information board with the park map stand near the park entrance on the west side of Mount Seymour Road.
