St. Lawrence suits a big-night dinner of French and Québécois cooking with one Michelin star in the 2026 guide, and every reserved table eats the four-course table d'hôte at $118 a person before tax and tip. The restaurant sits at 269 Powell Street in the Downtown Eastside, and Gastown is a few blocks to the west.
What to order
- Fried pork rinds with maple and Montreal spices ($14)
- Savoury éclair filled with duck liver mousse ($24)
- Duck ballotine with truffle sauce as the third course
- Apple tarte tatin with crème fraîche sorbet
Chef and owner Jean-Christophe Poirier came west from Quebec in 2004, and he opened St. Lawrence in 2017 as a tribute to the cooking he grew up with. The dining room holds 32 seats. Couples can book the chef's counter instead and face straight into the open kitchen. The restaurant says Michelin first gave it a star in 2022, and the 2026 guide kept it.
The table d'hôte follows the market from week to week. On the autumn 2026 menu you could start with hiramasa tuna over leek and potato vichyssoise and move on to black cod with celeriac and maple, or share a 12-ounce rib-eye with bordelaise for $20 more. Drinks pairings cost $105, or $75 without alcohol. Michelin's inspector points to the oreilles de crisse (fried pork rinds with maple) and the savoury éclair filled with duck liver mousse, and both sit on the menu as extras at $14 and $24.
Friday and Saturday tables go first, so book those on OpenTable up to three months ahead with a credit card. A change or cancellation inside 48 hours costs $60 a guest. Walk-ins stand a good chance midweek and on Sundays, the restaurant says, and the bar serves them à la carte.
Worth knowing
- Arrive on time, because the waiting area is tiny and the bar seats are usually booked. The restaurant sends early guests next door to Cuchillo for a drink.
- St. Lawrence asks every guest to treat the people of the Downtown Eastside with respect. It also suggests keeping valuables out of sight in a parked car, and it says that goes for anywhere in Vancouver.
- Children are welcome. The room has no high chairs and no space for strollers, so email info@stlawrencerestaurant.com before you book for a child under 10.
- Bookings open three months out, so tables for the December holidays come up in September.
