They helped bring abstraction into galleries and public view in the face of strong opposition from the established art world.
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery organized the show and sends it on tour, and the Audain secured more works for its Whistler run. Tom Hodgson's Light & Shade (1956) is among the paintings the museum shows on its page. Solstice: Through Storm & Stillness runs in the same building until 12 April 2027.
