Canoe Cultures Society calls itself an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to the art and culture of the canoe and the artists who make them. Its programs take place on the homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) people. Alongside the tours it runs an artist collective that passes on canoe carving.
In season the canoes launch at 10 am and 2 pm daily from Concord Pacific Community Park at 50 Pacific Boulevard, between Stadium–Chinatown and Main Street–Science World SkyTrain stations. An Indigenous guide and skipper takes the canoe through False Creek for up to 120 minutes, and the society suggests allowing three hours for the whole visit. Each departure needs at least four paddlers. Email bookings@canoecultures.com at least 48 hours ahead.
Private groups can add paddle carving or weaving demonstrations, Indigenous food, artist talks or performances at their own rates. The society also stages the Tatus Festival at the PNE, which ran on 4 and 5 September in 2026.
Worth knowing
- Book a 10 am departure if you want the rest of the afternoon free, since the society suggests three hours for the visit.
