Taxis and ride-hailing
Taxi
Taxis and ride-hailing cover all of North Vancouver and suit late arrivals and anyone carrying skis or a pile of luggage. Metro Vancouver taxi meters start at a $3.75 flag and $2.18 a kilometre with GST included, under the Passenger Transportation Board's 2026 rules, and Uber and Lyft both operate, including at YVR. A cab from YVR to North Vancouver runs on the meter, since the airport's flat zone fares stop at the inlet.

Fares
- Metro Vancouver taxi meter, flagMetro Vancouver's common taxi rate under Rule 9 of the Passenger Transportation Board's Rates Rules Manual (updated 30 August 2026), and the same figures appear on the Board's taxi rates list for North Shore Taxi, Yellow Cab, Vancouver Taxi, Black Top Cabs and other Metro Vancouver licensees (that list is marked updated December 2025). GST is included, since the Board requires every taxi meter to show fares with GST in. Distance $2.18 per km; waiting time $38.93 an hour ($36.29 for Yellow Cab). The Board allowed Region 1 licensees a one-time 3.92% increase if they applied by 3 July 2026, so meters may now read slightly higher.$3.75 (2026)
- YVR to Canada Place and downtown Vancouver, taxi zone fareFrom YVR's taxi zone map dated 11 October 2024, still the map YVR posts in October 2026, and Rule 9 of the Board's Rates Rules Manual (updated 30 August 2026) sets the same $46. Includes GST and the $4.00 Passenger Load Charge. Tips extra.$46 (2026)
- YVR to Stanley Park, taxi zone fareFrom the same YVR zone map and Rule 9, with GST and the $4.00 charge included. North Vancouver has no zone fare.$48 (2026)
- YVR Passenger Load ChargeIncluded in every flat zone fare from YVR and added to metered fares from YVR.$4 (2026)
- Ride-hail minimum fare, Region 1Set by the Passenger Transportation Board from 18 August 2026 for Region 1, which covers Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, and Rule 17 of its Rates Rules Manual says the minimum includes GST. Taxi meters across Metro Vancouver run on rates the Passenger Transportation Board approves. North Shore Taxi, which also trades as Cadillac Cabs and Hollyburn Taxi, charges the common Metro Vancouver rate on the Board's list: a $3.75 flag, $2.18 a kilometre and $38.93 an hour for waiting, with GST already inside the meter's figure. In May 2026 the Board let Region 1 companies apply for a one-time 3.92% rise by 3 July, so the meter may run slightly above these figures.
At YVR, taxis wait at stands on the arrivals level of both the international and domestic terminals. The airport's flat zone fares cover Richmond and Vancouver, with $46 to Canada Place and downtown on the map YVR updated in October 2024. North Vancouver sits beyond the last zone, so the driver runs the meter and adds the $4.00 Passenger Load Charge. Drivers can't charge for bags, and YVR lists tolls as the main extra.
Uber and Lyft are the two ride-hail companies authorized at YVR, with pick-up areas on Level 2 of both terminals and at the South Terminal. YVR asks you to collect your bags before you request the ride. Prices move with demand, and the Passenger Transportation Board's minimum ride-hail fare in Metro Vancouver rose to $4.43 on 18 August 2026.
The ski hills need more planning. Mount Seymour warns that some Uber drivers have refused pickups at the ski area, and asks guests to have a ride arranged up and down the mountain. At Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, taxis and ride-hail cars drop off and pick up by the crosswalk across from the entrance on Capilano Road.
Worth knowing
- Book the ride home from Mount Seymour by phone with a taxi company before you head up the mountain, since Mount Seymour asks guests to have a ride arranged both ways.
- At YVR, hire taxis only from the official stands on Level 2. Drivers aren't allowed to pick up anywhere else.
- If you think a taxi overcharged you, start with the company, then write to the province's Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement at cpv@gov.bc.ca.
- Taxi zone fares from YVR exclude tips, so add one on top of the $46 downtown fare.
