The program belongs to four partners: the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, the District of West Vancouver and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), which joined in 2024. BCAA's Evolve has run it since July 2025, after a pilot that started in 2021. The City of North Vancouver's engineering director credits the e-bikes with opening up cycling on the city's hilly terrain, and the motor assists you up to 25 km/h.
Everything runs through the Evo app, the same one that books Evo car share. Find a bike on the map, unlock it, ride, then end the trip in a marked Parking Zone, or anywhere inside the home zone if you are in the District of North Vancouver. Leave it outside a zone and Evolve charges a $50 parking fee. A shared helmet comes with every bike, and the app's Stopover setting holds the bike for you while you pop into a shop.
The minute rate of $0.35 and the $1.25 unlock add up to $11.75 for a half-hour ride before GST, by our sums. The $9.99 monthly subscription drops the minute rate to $0.10, so it pays for itself after about 40 minutes of riding in a month. Capilano Suspension Bridge Park has a parking zone for the program across Capilano Road from its entrance, and it sits beside the bike racks outside the Bridge House.
Worth knowing
- Register in the Evo app a day before you plan to ride, because Evolve approves each new member.
- Use the Stopover setting to lock the bike while you look around, and end the ride only in a Parking Zone to avoid the $50 fee.
- Families and anyone hauling shopping can borrow a free e-cargo bike from North Vancouver City Library, Lynn Valley Library or Parkgate Library through Evo Return.
- British Columbia requires a helmet on a bike, and Evolve leaves a shared one with each e-bike.
