Mobi works from docks. You pull a bike from a station, ride, and push it into any other station with a free slot until the screen says the ride has ended. The app shows bikes and empty docks in real time, which helps when the station nearest your destination is full. If you stop for a coffee, lock the bike with the cable built into the handlebar, and remember the clock keeps running while it stands there.
On pay-per-ride, an hour on a classic bike costs $18.65 before tax by our sums, and a half-hour on an e-bike $13.70. The $49 Monthly Pass covers unlimited 30-minute classic rides, so a visitor staying a week or more can dock every half hour and pay nothing more for the rides. Each account can unlock up to four bikes on pay-per-ride, charged one by one.
Mobi runs in the City of Vancouver. Across Burrard Inlet, North Vancouver has its own North Shore E-bike Share, which BCAA's Evolve runs with a separate app and its own prices.
Worth knowing
- On the Monthly Pass, dock and take a fresh bike before 30 minutes run out to keep each ride inside the pass.
- Open the app before you set off to check there are free docks near where you want to finish.
- Every Mobi price is quoted before tax, so expect tax on top of the unlock and the minutes.
